Wothwhile networking 512mb b/band ?
Discussion
Laptop sorted, ended up going back to store I always use in Wrexham, guess I should have done that in the first place
now wondering if worthwhile setting up wireless network,
1st problem we are only able to receive 512mb b/band
2nd problem use USB connected adsl modem.
Is it possible for a router only to sort this or will I be looking at combined unit?
Will be running main PC, 1further d/top and occassionaly l/top.
Thanks

512k is certainly better than 56k, if that's your first question. The whole "permanently on-line, can still use the phone" thing is worth the effort. So yes it is still worthwhile.
As you want to use multiple computers (whether at the same or different times), it is worth setting up a network (whether this is WiFi, Ethernet or a combination is another matter). It is also worth forgetting the USB ADSL modem and buying a modem-router - it will sort out all the internet interface stuff, there are no driver issues, and no relying on one computer to do that work. You also have the benefit of a local network for sharing files, printers, etc.
So work out whether wires or wireless is right for you, and check out www.adslguide.org.uk for some useful advice. You will need:
- A BT phoneline
- A broadband account
- A microfilter for each phone socket
- A modem-router
- A wireless card for each networked computer

If the router has a built-in ADSL modem you should be ok. Most popular "routers" (a misnomer) combine a router, wifi access point and ADSL modem.
