Having bought my DS when it first came out and found a complete lack of decent games at the time, I relegated my DS to the back of a dusty shelf.

I recently dusted it off having acquired Spyro the Dragon (or whatever it's called) which was a pretty poor choice.... I have WarioWare Touched which was cool for a bit but gets repetitive after a while. I also have Mario 64 - I'm used to my old Nintendo box so I haven't really got the hang of the weird graphics angle and I keep walking into things (I normally just play the 'where's Wally' mini game )

Does anyone have any recommendations for games as I don't want to end up buying another seriously poor game like Spyro....

Most addictive game I have found so far for the DS is Tiger Woods

I have just got Nintendogs for the misses, something to keep the peace when I want to play the 360, lol...

HOW ANNOYING !!

I will be sitting there minding my own business when from the other side of the lounge I hear her shouting, SIT DOWN, ROLL OVER, JUMP....... scares the life out of me, by the time I have finished rolling over I realise she is shouting at the game to get the voice recognition to work

Not a game I'd want to play on the tube then

Thanks for all the suggestions...I think I'll go for Brain training when it comes out in English, and also that operation game (can't remember the name!)

Project rub was fairly amusing

However there are millions of GBA games about that you could probably pick up reasonably cheaply. GBA games have always been about gameplay, not graphics so you're fairly safe there.

Shell ten-pin bowling mega collision mini game thing on Mario is still the best though!

Some others:
Ossu! Tatakae! Ouendan (Japan only)- My favorite DS game, superb if you love music/rhythm games.
Trauma Centre (Under the knife) - that surgery game that was mentioned
Meteos - Highly addictive puzzle game.
Tetris DS - Not out yet, but will be in a couple of months, 10 players online "Eat my blocks!"
Princess Peach - Traditional 2D platformer like Super Mario.
Kirby - A 2D platformer that uses the touch screen, got many review scores over 90%

AND

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Capcom didn't produce many copies of this, so it's a little bit difficult to find but it's highly sought after as the experience is very enjoyable... no REALLY. You play a lawyer, half the game is set in court, you question witness, try to break them and prove their lying and present evidence to prove your client's innocence. The other half is an adventure game where you move around, talking to various people involved with the trial and collect evidence to be used later. Sounds boring huh? Don't worry, the whole game plays out like a thriller novel and it's impossible to put down. Once I went 5 stations past my home because I was so deep in the story. Also, it's written hilariously with plenty of intelligent humour.
