I have noticed this as one of my user acounts on my XP pro machine. It's a bit annoying as 1/. I don'tknow what it does, and 2. it comes upwith a 'wait' box when I want to shut down my pc.

I've googled it and it seems to be another marvellous microsoft product for web developers, which I am not.

OK to delete it?

No, don't as this is probably needed by some form of application you have installed that uses the ASP.Net account.

It is created when the .net framework is installed, and used to allow certain rights to be given too certain files for the .net application (as I understand it).

Leave it alone, unless you enjoy watching something stop working!

Edited to add:

BTW this is all legit Microsoft stuff, and very very useful in the right hands. It's being used for absolutley everything. If you want to check what version of .net framework you have, have a look in your programs in Control Panel. It'll say there. You should be on version 1.1 Service Pack 2 (I think) (or even Verison 2 if you 've had an even newer app installed but unlikely) if you have Automatic Windows Updates turned on (and you should).

The big misnomer these days is that MS are all bad and evil, whereas it isn't the case (so much) anymore, and in the case of Windows Updates - it rocks now - some of use have been using it for five years and nothing bad has happened so I think we can safely say - chill dudes!
