What's the cheapest possible broadband deal? I'm looking for a replacement for somebody currently on dial-up and only spending a couple of quid a month. The aim is to provide enough bandwidth for occasional voice and video calls, but apart from these calls the internet use would be minimal.

I've found a couple of places advertising £10 a month (plus VAT obviously ) but that still adds up over the year. Have any of you found any cheaper options for very low use broadband?

This search shows up NewNet at £122 per year as the cheapest:

UKOnline @ £9.99 per month (inc vat). Not sure if they are charging a signup fee though...

No signup but geographically very limited - doesn't include my address (bummer).

I guess ideally what I'm looking for is a pay-as-you-go dialup type pricing structure with broadband type bandwidth. I don't think it'll get used enough to justify spending £100s on it.

If you search for "pay as you go broadband" in Google it brings up a number of options e.g. Metronet.

check out www.adslguide.org but a few quid a month is dial up, broadband starts around £15 per month, the really cheap ones might be cheaper assuming they even last the year and you dont mind being as fast as dial up because the service is so oer contended..

Currently paying £30 for 2mb unlimited adsl, no caps, throttles etc

prefer to pay a little bit more to get decent service that is not restricted for internet use. my usenet is 2x15 kb but usually leave it to d/l over night

There seem to be various places offering 'pay as you go broadband' but all have them have a fairly high minimum monthly charge (in the context of my budget for this project, £10 a month is fairly high). I guess the £10 minimum represents the cost to dedicate the ISP's termination equipment to a particular subscriber?
