Max recommended is 10M- 15M see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCART

But in my experience to get good signal at 10M you would want gold plated scart connectors plus a very high quality low loss cable.

You can get one here www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tvcables/SC010.html for £16.49 inc vat . Quality of the link will depend on how good the signal is being sent out by your device.

Good luck !

I've got a 15M one, works fine with no discernable signal loss and it was a £10 cheapy from the local gadjet shop.

I to have long scart lead, but with a difference; the cable is like a ribbon cale rather than round to hide it under the carpet. I got it from these guys www.technosound.co.uk/nav.php (not cheap though IIRC about £90)

All good information thanks. The next question is, can I cut off one end and then re solder to get it through and under the floorboards without having to cut a great big hole as large as a plug?

you can easily dismantle most sockets and fold the wires leaving you with a much smaller hole to drill (not much better than the cable itself).

just a thought, lift the floor board and cut a small piece (the diameter of the wire) out of the side and locate the cable when replacing the board. no cable cutting required.

Why run a massive redundant cable like scart?

Break it out at the component end into 3 coaxials, the only thing you lose is the sensing ability...

What is the sensing ability?

If I understand it, its the ability for the TV to sense when a scart input is sent and switches to allow the viewing of the scart source.

IIRC correctly switching is also used in mode setup situations. For example my Toshiba DVD player and my Sony Freeview box 'talk' to the Toshiba Widescreen TV and tell it to go into Widescreen mode as required. Or 4:3 if that is what is being sent over the scart.

It uses various voltage levels on Pin 8. 12volts will just switch over to that scart but @ 4:3 other volages give the 16:9. I used to use an old telly as a monitor.

If the output of the device is widescreen or normal aspect that can still be carried as a composite signal, then you have the audio out left and rights.

You can run coaxial far longer than you can run scart, its thinner, more flexible and far far cheaper...
