Here we go
The engine is worse than 1st thought,
The crank's OK need's a polish but the piston's are shot.
Two piston's have crack's along the skirt,

So the question is,
Can the 4.2 block be uprated using the 4.5 piston's and a rebore.
Or is it a case of fitting new 4.5 piston's with liner's.

Are there any oversized piston's as TVR only make/do the standard size.

Isn't it easier to get hold of two decent 4.2 pistons Phil? There must be loads of them knocking around. For a start, what do TVR power do with the ones they get out of the car when they do a 4.5 upgrade?

trouble with using 2nd hand pistons is that pistons and liners ovalise over time due to their motions.

Most cars haven't done such high mileages, so it must be feasible to find 2nd hand pistons within spec?

Only problem with second hand piston's is you never know what treatment they had.
I have 8 spare piston's and rod's and the piston's are scrap.
So new piston's are my next choice.
A bit of time and effort taken now so I don't have to pull the engine out later.

What I should of said in the early thread was can the 4.5 piston's be fitted to the 4.2 liner's by boring them to suit and what other mod's need to be done.
I have phoned TVR Power and waiting for a reply?.

But if someone has a set of newish low mileage piston's from a upgrade please let me know.

I thought of doing this also but it would leave the liners too thin .If you are buying new pistons the new liners are very cheap by comparison but you will have to bore the block to fit them , Dave

Wouldn't this be a good opportunity to fit custom forged pistons?

Are they a forged special or cast AE item? If the latter you may be able to get replacements through your local engine re-con place. Or even some JE or ross forged equivalent?

The ones I saw were cast AE stuff and not all thet impressive hence my thought of something a bit more special.

Would be cheaper if you could get them from an AE dealer though instead of TVR Bet you can't though.
