If you were wee kids, would you be out and about on one? Of course you would!

It is a funny world we live in, on the one hand, we're told our kids can't play conkers due to safety issues (!!!!!), but on the other hand, kids can ride these little powered bikes around wherever they wish with apparent impunity!

They are most definately illegal to ride on the road. I do agree with the sentiment above though, that kids will be kids - if I had one when I was a kid I would probably have spent time riding up and down the road I live on - as it was I had to make do with a mountain bike/skateboard/rollerskates.

Whilst I agree that Mini Motos could potentially cause an accident, so can pets, pushbikes, pedestrians and just as is the case with those things, Mini Motos should only be used in safe areas - if one of the local kids wants to skin his/her knees buzzing up and down the road in the sleepy Wiltshire village where I live then I wouldn't have a problem with it, provided it's not done after 11pm (they're quite noisy) and they don't ride out in front of passing vehicles. Riding one along the M25 would of course be silly and this is where discretion is needed.

What I am trying to say, though i'm doing a dreadful job I must admit, is that we are too quick these days to ban everything that we don't agree with, but in reality 99% of things that we deem 'dangerous' are merely 'potentially dangerous' if not used with caution. Given a few years we'll all be confined to our homes in bubblewrap and require a license and written approval to use a tin opener or vegetable peeler.

I personally would not ride a Mini Moto on the street, just because it would undoubtably annoy the neighbours and i'd probably get run over - but we all have to make our own risks assessments for ourselves and (y)our children.

Now put yourself in the postition of a landowner (like my boss) who finds his land over-run by the cheeky bastards, every weekend and even most weekdays, buzzing past al the staff cars and past the office windows, while he has clients in.
How does that look?
These people don't ask for permission, offer to pay for the mess they make, damage to the land (10000 laps of the same piece of mud makes a hell of an eyesore)... and THEN you find that they can sue you if they come offf and hurt themselves!
Yet the Police can do next to sod-all, and to take out personal proceedings against each one by name (which they won't give you, of course) would be hellishly expensive and time consuming.

We make a big show of writing down reg. numbers (they turn up in vans, pickups etc) and deliberately locking the main gates with the cheeky 2@'s inside...

Looking at thread like this, you'd think you lot were never kids. Ever go the the woods when you weren't supposed to? Ever ride your bike at night with no lights? Ever mess around under road bridges, etc? Yes, riding them on the road is against the law, and yes it's dangerous, but sometimes some people forgot tha things they did when they were little.

The most annoying thing about these mini moto's is the racket they make though. I can handle a npoiy moped going passed my house on its way somehwere, but a mini moto running up and down outside your house is bloody annoying. I don't care if there legal or dangerous or whatever, i just wish they were electric...

Now that's trespass and wanton damage of someone elses property, which is appalling. My comments referred to kids riding around lightly trafficed cul-de-sacs causing no more damage than a bit of a racket

I luv `em..If only there were more places to use `em. Public parks need to start providing small circuits for this purpose. Monkey bars and basketball courts are a nice gesture but our kids are a different generation with different needs. Lets get with the program....
Nobody wants to see `em hittin the streets.

If you were 12 wouldn`t you want these?!

At 32 I want one of those
I've done a few laps of the local basketball court (there was money out of my council tax well spent ) on the local park and they are a top laugh, they are the motorbike version of go-karts and can be great fun, but hurt like hell when you bin it. I think I'd be out with the stinger if some kid was playing Moto-GP down my street, so like has been mentioned the council need to sort out places that kids can use them, you never know that annoying kid may be the next Rossi
