I’m sending my drivers seat and the sill pad to an upholsterer. Does anyone know the best way to remove the sill pad without causing damage?

Just pull it off, otherwise some fishing line pulled side to side to seperate from the glue?.

So its just glued on. There are no hidden screws or fastenings.

I spoke to the accessories man at Hethel and he said to just pull the sill pad off as it is only glued on!! Not tried it yet as can't decide what to have it recovered with. It's on a series one Norfolk mustard elise. Any suggestions??

hi i have just changed the leather in my elise, the sil cover's will pull off it's only double sided tape. you will have to clean tape off inner sil, there is a plastic mould under the leather,i then bonded this back you can buy this from your local auto paint shop, will you will have no problem's if you do mail me.

Just replaced them both last week.Tricky to get them off using a flat filler knife to cut bond of double sided tape. But just take your time and they will come.

Bought replacements from Elise parts as I reconed matching the colours exactly (black cloth with magnolia leather) would be impossible. The new ones are black cloth with black carbon fibre material and look great.Cost about £80.00 per pair.Having magnolia leather on the originals was a disaster anyway as they always showed foot scuff marks.

Well I need to get my done on my s1 Exige and I am having trouble. This is some very strong glue/double sided tape! You are trying you best not to damage the ally/paintwork at the same time! I have got the edges loose but the long parts seem very secure! Shall i try some heat??????????

Heat would probably help to soften the adhesive but not too much as the protectors themselves are just plastic covered in material and leather.

You can use a hairdryer(fhön)...I use it to get stickers from cars and special older hardened stickers, works well...ofcorse do not heat 1 place to long.

The new sill pad already comes with tape attached.

You did well to remove intact - I lost my patience and yanked it off in three pieces!

Thanks people.

A wallpaper scraper did the job, no problem.

I'm having the driver’s seat and sill pad (material parts only) recovered tomorrow. I know they will inevitably wear out again but it will restore the car back to immaculate condition. £75 for both, I thought this was very reasonable.

No. A local guy (in Durham) is doing it.
