Anybody know why TVR in their infinite wisdom decided to design the Chim's bonnet so that it opens from the screen and not from the front ala the Griff?

Surely there was enough room to get the hinges in? Presumably the Chim is slightly wider? Going back to the days ehn I had a Fiesta, I've always hated bonnets that opne that way ...

Thinking about it, could it be to do with the size of the thing? The Cerb's bonnet opens the same way and the Griff's is a lot smaller after all ...

I thought it was just a historical thing. My dad always used to say that the best cars always had bonnets that open forwards...

Perhaps it's a racing thing to stop them opening if the catch goes....

I had a 'not properly shut' Chimaera bonnet start to lift on me at about 100mph a few years back... suddenly i could see my engine bay but not the road.

even with my bonnet properly shut it used to bend upwards at the windscreen end at 125+. That coupled with the windscreen wipers peeling themselves off the windscreen meant I rarely went over that speed. It felt like I was entering hyperspace as the car started breaking up.

I can beat that, mine lifted at 150mph. It waved about in front of me in the middle of the windscreen, right in my eyeline.

And i raise that again, mine popped open chasing Tonny_996_has_gone's Diablo SVT on the way to Le Mans last year, the bonnet popped out of the catch at 1.5/1.6 leptons, my passenger literally shit himself, its also done it at Vmax @ 156 Mph with Slinky in it and a recent occurence on the M1 for the last Dawn Raid

Is yours the prefacelift type? Mine is, and I reckon they must be a bit more flexible than the later ones. At that speed it lifts so much in the centre that it shortens considerably and pops out of the catch. I can't bring myself to fit bonnet pins though, a la 70s Cortinas.

It was, a 96 press car, that was my solution if i'd have kept it, Gaffer tap works just as well

Not chim related but when driving my old 998cc mini i managed to get 100+ just, and then the wing mirror (i only had one) fell off.

Cue rapid deceleration...

I think it has to do with the fact that they wanted to please the people in the Fiesta-way like they also did with the rearlights.

Me too. Except it was on the main straight at Brunters & I was doing 140. It's firmly fastened
down with bonnet pins now, despite the Essex Cortina connotations. I quite like being able
to see.
