boot coming open
Discussion
I had recently noticed a strange noise whilst driving (other than the usual
) but had been unable to trace it.
However, the other day I went to open my boot and found it already open and then when I thought about it, this has happened before - I just thought I'd accidently pressed the boot release on my alarm fob.
Although I've not actually determined if this is my rogue noise yet, has anyone had a problem with the boot opening itself whilst driving?

I have that a couple of times when I was a bit casual about latching the boot. I was told never to slam it by the dealer, just lower it down then push until it clicks. A few times I've slammed it (gently!) and it hasn't caught. I've then spotted it flapping up and down over speed humps! That's as bad as leaving the bottom of your coat hanging out of the door!

Do I read it that you have an after market remote boot release?
Yes, the car came with an alarm remote that unlocks the boot but I don't think it's caused by the key jangling.

This sounds feasible as I've slammed it myself then been able to pull it open - I'll make a point of pressing it shut and see how it goes.
Cheers guys

Well after a bit of messing about I've reached the conclusion that victormeldrew may be right as:
1) My legs are that short I can't accidently catch the boot release button
and
2) The remote release on the fob doesn't work when the engine is running
Each time I shut the boot now I just press firmly on the top of it and, touch wood, I've not had a repeat of my problem.
Still got the rattle though although it may be a different one that sounds similar
Thanks for all the input.

The boot can be released if the cable release (actuated by the button) is moved by luggage.
I suspect one of your golf clubs has fallen against it![]()

Thanks for that snippet, useful to know, but all I've had in the boot is a medium briefcase which sits in the well - my golf clubs will probably stay in the cellar til March.
Could a gold medallion on a long chain activate it under heavy braking?
