I recently invested in a Sonos wireless music system, I am really pleased with it but havea slight problem.I have a lot of music files on my computer that do not appear to have either been tagged or tagged correctly, I am using itunes with the Sonos but many of the files that I have dropped into itunes don't seem to be "tagged" if that is the correct terminology in other words itunes will not list them by artist or album title or limited info is available.

I am not very computer savy, and the thought of somehow manually "tagging" all these files (even if I knew how to do this!) is not giving me a warm feeling.

Could anyone recommend any good and easy to use software that I can either download or buy that will somehow sort this problem and also perhaps allow me to download album covers etc.. there seem to be a few around but before buying or downloading was hoping for a recommendation.

cheers in advance

MP3Tag is freeware and is pretty straightforward. Links to freedb and Amazon databases for album listings also.

www.cdcovers.cc for covers.

Not sure how many tracks we are talking about here but they can be re-tagged in i-tunes manually. It's not as bad as it sounds because lets say you have 15 tracks that should have the same artist/album name on them you can do them all in one edit. Once done though it will never be necessary to do it again the changes will be saved in the file.
To do it in i-tunes right click on any track, select get info and then the info tag. Whatever you do in there will be written to wherever the mp3 is stored.

Ribol we are talking about at least 60 albums I would imagine therefore it will take sometime to do this "manually" but thanks for showing me how to do it.

There are various programs out there that will build tag information out of the filename and vice versa and all sorts of other permutations.

But in the time you've taken to compose and read and reply to this thread, you could've done it manually.
I updated all the tags manually on about 240 of my MP3 albums last month. Took about a week doing 10-15 mins a day. The real pain is numbering tracks as you have to do them individually.

I'll vote for mp3Tag again. It's excellent. It allows you to copy from filename to mp3 tag and vice versa, it will bulk remove things like _(underscores), -(dashes) etc and as someone else said it links in to FreeDBs, so even if you have no filenames or tags it can find the album by number of tracks, duration etc and name everything accordingly.

Did I say it's excellent?
