Has anyone got any opinions on dealing with Bulldog?

They appear to have an attractive package at the moment that would suit my parents who would be light users:

Broadband upto 8meg unlimited download at 3p/min rather than a monthly charge.

Only visible catch being phone billing with them at £10.50/month rather than BT.

Once it's setup and running it's great but if you have any problems their customer service is the worst you will ever encounter (or at least was, they may have improved in the last few months).

I understand they were fine as a smaller company but they've been on a real drive to sign up new users and simply cannot cope. I've heard their helpline makes N.T.Hell's seem reasonable.

Oh, and they cost me £58 due to their inefficiency telling me I could have 1mb, then once I'd disconnected telling me I couldn't. Useless Bar Stewards. I had to pay another connection charge!

I had Bulldog 4mb broadband at uni. It was fine... no worries but when I tried to cancel it was Although they did offer it to me for a stupidly low price, so it might be worth playing them at their own game and threaten to leave and get a better price...

They've been on Watchdog a couple of times. (and no, it wasn't for a worlds best ISP award)

I've got the 8mb + phoneline package & overall it has been ok for the money
It does seem to be a service which has grown it's customer base faster than it's processes, but at no time when I have been using it has my b/b gone down or run very slowly

There have been some drawbacks:

1. 6 or so months ago the phone line quality was a bit rubbish but it cleared up and has been fine since
2. They nessed up my billing (they upgraded from my old 1mb account without applying any of the discounts they were supposed to give me).
The helpdesk were a pain (though quite easy to get through to) but after 3 calls they gave me the address of their head office ot make complaints & 3 days later (without having to write a letter) I got an apologetic call from a service manager, the money they owed back + 2 months free service to make up for it.

I had a dreadful time with them

Their customer service was awful, the staff were rude, and they never returned phone calls

There are better deals to be had, taking into account the bad service.

The line would be lost on regular occasions, and you had to just put up because you weren’t going to get in touch with anyone unless you wanted to wait at least an hour, to have the phone put down on you

as an upside if you actually recommend someone you can get a credit on your account!

As mentioned above, their customer service is the worst I've ever come across. I know a lot of people who had Bulldog, and not one person has anything nice to say about them!

One of my colleagues terminated his agreement with Bulldog in October. Although they did terminate his agreement, they didn't take the markers (?) off the line meaning he couldn't get any other broadband into his house....they've only *just* taken the markers off meaning he has been without broadband for 3 months. Eventually, Ofcom got involved, but even then, it took a long time to resolve.
