I'm sure some nice guy will be able to turn the above into a link, but for the time being, you'll have to copy and paste.

This isn't an Austin Healey per se, but I gave a great deal of thought to getting one of these a while back.

I was looking for the new Healey, the one thats going to be based on the MG SV platform??

I'm aware of the classic models. I've seen the reports on here about the proposed re-launch, but cannot seem to find any contact details at all.

Cheers for your help though.

According to what I read yesterday there will be an announcement about car production at Longbridge restarting next week. GB Sports Cars will be behind it, having reached agreement with Nanjing. And these are the guys that were talking of resurrecting the Austin Healey. From what I gather though, they are meanly focused towards running up MG ZTs and the like. I know the same team have also put an offer into to DC to biy the Smart Roadster when production stops.

With all these things on their plate I would imagine a new large sized AH as you enquired about is some way off.

Anyway, watch out for something next week.

My Dad had a Healey 3000 years ago and sold it to buy a fridge. Given the prices they now go for, I think he wishes he restored it instead

You are missing an important point.

This is PH, we know about healey, the majority have never heard of it! This marque ceased making cars before many of you were born!

As for claims that using an old name generates interest that wouldn't happen with a new name is this a joke? The only people who recognise the old names are either PH types or pensioners. Is that market going to support a company throughout a production run? Yes, it does give a small headstart but I seriously question what some folk are prepared to shell out for an old name when that same money could be spent on promoting their own name.

It's true that new names do face difficulties. Lots of stillborn or would be supercars get posted on PH. Many of the threads run to several pages. Some of them are new names.

The GTM (US)
Gumpert Apollo

These problems however are certainly not insurmountable.

Think about the following-
Are the owners of Lexus idiots? Should they have bought a long dead marque instead? Have Toyota screwed up? Remember Toyota seriously considered buying an old marque only to discount it on the basis that it was easier [read more economic] to establish a new one!
How many resurected marques with this incredible marketing advantage of using an old name survive past the first half dozen cars?

Is this a response to a post I can't see?
sometime wonder if there are messages missing, since I cant see what cymtriks is replying to.

This is not aimed at any of the above posts in particular but rather at the people trying to resurect Healey! Perhaps it could have been worded better.

Typically it is claimed that using an old name gives a head start. With a relatively current name like MG perhaps, but one that disappeared 30 years ago?

Well maybe you should have done some editing, quickly. Who cares what its called, i still want one!!! thank you for your opinion, it doesn't give any contact details. I have read subsequently that the original Healey family is getting involved, thank you Telegraph Business and Saturdays Motoring Supplement.

Just waiting to see whats going to happen next.
