Hi All,

I hope no-one is suffering too much from the January Blues!

Does anyone know how different the under-bonnet areas are between a late model Chim and a Cerbera?

The key question being, will a Cerbera engine fit into a Chim? (without cutting the entire front end off and fitting a Cerbera one of course!

Answers on a postcard please!

Cheers,

Nick

It's a much smaller engine, so it would fit. Check out the RPI and MCD websites for the RV8 and AJP8 engine dimensions respectively.

Seems very likely that it would IMO, although that's not based on any technicaly know-how!

That would be a real evil beast of a car!

Thanks guys for the info.
I'll go and check out the measurements. so to speak!

Well from what i've read the AJP8 engine is a gem with the correct maintenance etc and produces great power.

I'm often asked what car i would buy if i changed the Chim but to be blatantly honest i couldnt answer the question. Except perhaps a 2 seater Cerbera convertible.. and then the penny dropped. When i finally get to the stage where i want more extreme performance from my Chim, just give it the heart of a Cerbera..

ooo i feel a project coming on!

cheers,

Nick

I honestly haven't made up my mind for certain, but i'm considering it alongside the 5.5 rv8 conversion. There are many things to consider between the two options really.

Well from my little knowledge of the AJP8 engine it and the RV8 are like chalk and cheese with regards to driving characteristics..

To be honest i think before i seriously considered doing the conversion i would need to drive a cerbera and see if a more 'top endy' engine would be up my alley.

Definitely be quick though!

The AJP development car was a Griff. Will fit no problem; it's all the other bits like brakes and suspension that take time and money.

I wouldnt think the brakes and suspension would need huge changes since i dont think the weight of the car would change dramatically.

No the serpentine engine is the same Rover V8 but with modified pumps / plumbing and a single belt which runs them all.

The AJP engines are TVR (& Melling) home grown.

Most people tend to think that the original brakes are on the limit of only just being good enough, esp the front. The weight would decrease but other factors come into play hence the sucess of the Nitron and Ohlin companies. Good luck.

Fire - give TowerView a call - they are in North London so pretty close to you.

They have worked with Steve Heath on his 520 monster and the Cerb chevy conversion - so I'm sure they would be excellent.

Thanks for that. i may well make a few enquiries with them.
I dont want to waste too much of anyones time yet as obviously im only investigating the possibility and also the costs involved.

It depends, one belt would quite happily do the alternator and water pump, however start adding PAS, air-con etc, you start getting very long belt runs etc so manufacturers tended to go for the multi belt approach.

now i am confused...my engine (94 4ltr) has a single belt and is a pre serp???
The pre - serp has a V belt and the serp has a flat belt, but they both only have the one dont they?

Im no expert on pre-serpentines buuuuutt this is how i understand it.

The serpentine engine has a v belt that takes a long bendy route round the front of the engine running everything on the same belt. Alternator, Power Steering, Aircon, Water Pump etc etc.

The pre Serpentine may have the alternator & water pump etc on the same belt and i guess if you dont have aircon or Power Steering you may only have one belt.
It doesnt take the same 'bendy' route as the Serpentine engine.

Bit vague but i'm sure others have a fuller answer to that one..
