I am thinking of going with the AA this year (option 30
0, joint) and noticed that they do a 'parts and labour cover' for an extra £48. This sounds like a good idea to cover starter motors etc . Anyone had any experience / comments?

Just a bit of advice re breakdown companies....

I found out from a local recovery company, that Greenflag actually have the best response times for getting a flat bed out. Reason ? They pay all the local recovery companies more, so if the local firm gets a call from the RAC saying the need a flat bed, then a call from Green flag - Green flag gets it first ! Green flag ETA for a flat bed is within the hour. AA/RAC = within 3 hours ! Guess who found out after waiting 3.5 hours for the RAC, then remembered he had Green flag on the TVR through the warranty !! D'OH !!!!

Ok, the AA/RAC may fix the car by the road side faster/more often, but if you have to wait for a flat bed.......

I've found the AA good on all occasions I've had to use them (BMW: flat battery, BMW: lost keys, TVR: flat battery, Peugot: fuel pump spindle). The guys who come out are also on 'your' side and dislike head office, so it's easier to cadge a favour.

I share a family AA membership with a neighbour and we go halves on the cost - I just have to remember to use her address if I call them!

I've found both the AA and RAC to be good so far.

Had an AA guy out last week to confirm my suspicion about a faulty starter motor in my Celica last week, he had a quick look and listen in the engine bay when I was trying to start it, then got out the hammer, a whacked the start a few times while I was turning the ignition and it burst into action!

However, if you're into Trackdays, the AA explictly state they will rescue you (as well as road rallies such as the Gumball and Cannonball ), where-as the RAC state that they won't

So the AA it was for me..
