Hi, Insurance renewal has reared its ugly head again!! Elephant have sky rocketed this year for my standard S1. Tescos have given a great quote but require a tracker. Anyone know the cheapest insurance recognised tracker available?? Or the most lotus friendly insurer for an under 30 year old??

adrian flux have just made my day!! I was with tesco last year and was very unimpressed with their service. They wanted £810 this year plus tracker at £109 per year. Adrian Flux wanted £550 with out Tracker!!!! Guess who I`m insured with now.....?
oh by the way I`m 27 and have 3 pts.

There are plenty of "non tracker demanding" Lotus specialist insurers out there, who take an informed and balanced view on risk.

A quick search of past threads here or a search on SELOC will ensure you don't necessarily have to go down that route.

Frankly, I would rather have a tracker and a better chance of my baby being returned. Also if I get car-jacked, I have more options.

After someone has stolen my car and ragged the hell out of it, I would probably not want it back. Who pays for all the mechanical things that go wroong later on?

I'm insured with Swiftcover.com, well cheaper than everyone else I got quotes from (Adrian Flux was next best) and you can pick and choose your voluntary excess to bring the price down. I thought about a tracker but decided that I didn't want it back if some scrote had ragged it all over.

The elise is a neich product with a good community of owners and dealers. This makes it quite hard to sell on. To smash the car and break for spares is not a value option (it is a metro!) This means it is basically stolen to order and is generally taken offshore to a market where the car is not known.

A tracker is useful because it can alert the police early on and raises the chances of retrieval. A common tactic seems to be to steal it, leave it someware for a few days. If it stays there there is no tracker then the thief will come back and move it to its final destination.

These cars are not joy ridden as they are very difficult to start and access by the chavvy oiks who go joyriding and generally there is not much left to get back on the road.

Stolen to order is different, they have a product that they wish to sell. They are not stealing for kicks and while there may be damage due to gaining entry or not being used to the handling and being caught out, the thief is trying not to raise anyones interest. The risk of damage is lower.

Generally I would argue that whatever happens, you want to increase the chances of getting your car back.
