Unacceptable vehicles in suburbia
Discussion
What do you think is an unacceptable vehicle to be parked outside your house on the public road. Vans, box vans, trucks, rubbish trucks, oil tankers, artic’s, truck cabs etc
Round my way its the usual cars and a couple of vans and on Saturdays there is a mobile library truck which parks just down the road. Im not really to keen on the vans but don’t mind too much and im happy to see the library truck even though I have never used it in 10 years, but for the last couple of weeks I have had a recovery truck parked out front every day, this is the sort of thing the AA use to recover your car if they cant fix it at the roadside.
I think this is a step to far what do you think and is there anything I can do about it as its on the public road. Perhaps im being a bit snobby as people have to use vehicles for work but I think you have to draw the line somewhere

Cars parked opposite each other on narrow roads
We onced parked on a narrow road on a housing estate, to visit a friend, making sure there was ample room to get past. We get to the friends door, and directly next to our volvo, some 40ish woman pulls up, blocking the road.
"You cant park there, says dad, youve comletely blocked the road!"
"no, youve blocked the road. i live here"
GRR! silly narrow minded selfish bitch.

Yes, you are being snobby. Tell me where you live and I will come down and park my rubbish truck outside your house.
If the truck is road legal and taxed there isn't much you can do about it although if it is over a certain weight it wouldn't be allowed on the street at night in most areas.

Its probably not over weight but why would that be a problem
Not over weight, over a certain weight.

OK so why would over a certain weight be a problem. They recently resurfaced my road and left the road laying trucks in the road over night. No problem with that but they must weigh a hugh amount
We have a car/truck and just about everything rental company opposite our road and they park their vans and trucks up and down the road.
I have had a mention in the local residents association rag for having a race car chassis on my front lawn for a year or more and if you look at the Google Earth satellite image of my street you can see a trail of oil down the road where i unloaded the race car off my trailer and didn't realise a return pipe to the sump was broken.

Vehicles over a certain weight (>3.5T?) are not allowed to park in non designated areas over night.
Sort of correct, but not the whole picture I'm affraid.
This comes down to Operator Licencing. All vehicles over 3.5 ton GVW come under the regulation of VOSA, the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency, who require the operators of said vehicles to apply for an Operators licence. This licence, amongst other things, restricts where the vehicle can be parked overnight. When the vehicle is not being used, it must be kept at the designated Operating centre, unless it is away from base in the pursuit of the operators business. So, your "Problem" vehicle would indeed look like it is breaking the conditions of its operators licence. Unfortunatly, as with most things with reference to comercial vehicles, its not that simple. There is a list of vehicles which are exempt from Operator licencing, Recovery vehicles being one of them.
Can't you just have a word with the guy? I believe (rightly or Wrongly) that most people are very reasonable if you tread as carefully as you would like them to.

I suppose I could but if he is parking there then its because he doesnt have anywhere else to park it.
