Verysideways has kindly given me the name of Peter Morgan who I have heard about on the PCGB forum.
This is the car ... no, it's not a Coupe, no, it's not RHD either ... but in my, granted sometimes warped, opinion, it looks the dogs bollx and has potential to go like stink!
Only if I can get it for the right money though.

I haven't had a reply to the email yet.
Not quite sure what to do as I have another standard, but very nice 3.2 to see on Saturday before the RUF auction ends, so if that is right, then sense says I should plump for that one... lime green Fuchs anyone?

Peter Morgan has a good reputation and may even be able to comment on it's authenticity.
Oh, and FWIW, I really like the look of a Targa - I only got rid of mine because the roof is a pain in the arse for daily driving, but for a fun car they're perfect. In fact, now that I've got myself a cheap Saab for daily driving I may even go back to a Targa at some stage.

I think I will probably go for Peter Morgan guys. I have heard the name before over on the PCGB forum and he seems to have a good name. Also he jacks the cars up off the ground to have a good root around underneath so, shy of finding someone who can also do a compression test, he is probably as good a bet as a garage, and he goes to the cars.
Having said all this - there may be a little black number coming up fast on the inside
As this is my ideal spec (it was 50/50 white or black) I am making another trip down south to see the car tomorrow morning before the auction on the RUF ends, so fingers crossed.
The thing I wonder about with the Targa is:
1) How secure is the roof at say 140mph? I know if you open the window at speed they can have a tendency to fly off with the sudden increase of air pressure into the cabin. One of the guys here at work had it happen at 70mph the other month.
2) Then again, if you don't have the roof on, which I very rarely would, does the air rushing into the cabin at high speed produce a risk of building up pressure in that big bowl of a rear window and popping the glass out, as has happened a few times on TVR Tuscans.
