Morning all. Not being medically trained my diagnosis may be a little premature so I'll open this one to the floor (though I suspect the answer is in the title).

This last couple of weeks I've been working longer hours than usual (all at my PC) and this morning my right hand has a tired achey feel about it with the occasional (though frequent) sharp stabbing pains shooting from the middle of the palm down my middle finger. This happens irrespective of use.

I suspect RSI - is there any other explanations? and what should I do next - aside from becoming a soft paw.

Could be trapped nerve or muscle spasm, go to GP, have xray and referral to physio. I've had a trapped nerve in my right arm for the last 6 weeks, not painful but bloody annoying!!!. The phys can advise on ergonomic stuff to help.

Wanker!!!

Check nobody has inadvertently crucified you during the night and go from there. If they have, don't get cross but suspect an Romans in the vicinity.

The start of Carpal tunnel syndrome........ maybe??

My mum had it and thought it may have been RSI and it works out (about to be proved wrong) that one of the tendons in her wrist got damaged and there was little that could be done except for painkiller injections and finally an operation.

This is worse case senario tho, bear that in mind......

More seriously check your mouse is clean and moves freely and that your wrist is supported by something while you use it.

I think you need to liaise with Carrera2's cleaner. By the sounds of it she's got something similar going on.

Podie is a qualified ergonomist and I know he's given people advice that have seen these sort of symptoms off fairly quickly. He's really busy at the moment and not been on PH for ages, so drop him a mail through his profile.

Think you're supposed to put an asterisk in the actual swear word bit...

I spend my working day on the computer and sometimes a reasonable amount of the evening on it too.
I sometimes get a sore right forearm and pain in my wrist. I find that laying off the games consoles and computer games helps, and making sure your forearm is supported at all times, especially when using the mouse, is a good move. A cold compress (eg. bag of frozen peas in a tea towel) on the affected area can give relief from the pain and will help reduce swelling.
