Lighter Socket

Went out to try my Origin Blue-i last week and it doesn't work. Tried the key in all positions but still nothing.

I was looking at the wiring diagrams in the bible last night, and it seems to indicate that the handbrake light is on the same circuit / fuse, but that light works fine.

Is it likely that the actual socket is kapput? Would that be difficult to replace?

It could be one of the wires off the back of the socket, would be a idea to check those and test if there is power to them, on some S’s the lighter works all the time, others come on with the key in the auxiliary position.

Have you asked the company to replace the plug-in lead that runs between the unit and the socket? Mine was faulty. They replaced it straight away and it's been fine since.

If you push the little sprung jobby at the socket end in and it makes a kind of crunching noise instead of just sliding in smoothly, that's a problem.

The lead works OK in my other cars, methinks some taking apart of the socket is in order.

Must be the only thing not covered in the bible

When you turn on the lights (and the interior illuminates) does the outside green ring of the lighter socket comes on?

Does the cig lighter work (heat up) if you push that in?

D'oh! - the logic being that if it does neither, then it's probably the connectors at the back! Every S that I looked at, the socket was more than happy to leave the dashboard...

Assuming it is the ligher socket, which seems likely to me, is it easy to get hold of replacements, or might a soldering job be in order?

hmm... I'd imagine it should be a simple case of soldering it back - or getting a new one from Halfords. I'm guessing here... but I don't KNOW.

I think they are a standard size so a replacement shouldn't be too much of a problem. The connector may just have come adrift at the back if its not working. It would be worth checking the fuses as well, I can't remember what else is on the same fuse but that should help with the diagnosis.

Which fuse is the lighter connected to?

Having looked in the bible and the owners manual it doesn't seem too obvious, except for it being connected in-line with the hand-brake light.

Would it be likely to have it's own fuse the day my TVR was built?

As with all things TVR one can never be sure. It should be a 10 amp fuse so check all of them.
