Hi all

I am a South African currently living in South Africa. If I got an offer of employment from a UK company, are there massive hurdles getting into the country for us foreigners? Does it help any if my mom is a UK resident (although still an SA citizen)? Would my girlfriend have trouble getting in too?

Thanks

No its easy! We need people to work here to pay for our state pensions!

Usually you can get a 1 year work permit pretty simply, as for longer term I am not sure its that much harder.

I would contact the UK embassy for details as they should know the in and out of it all

No you got that the wrong way around, you want disadvantaged refugees to come in so you can pay them benefits, or at least thats how it seems sometimes

The back and middle offices of most banks in London are awash with South Africans, Kiwis and Aussies none of who seem to have much of a problem. Are you going perm or contract? ( First Contact seem to be used by alot of people, you'll find they help with the whole social and events scene too )

There are even dedicated S. African pubs in London. And events arranged for all the major S. Hemisphere sports matches. You'll love it her, most do anyway.

One tip though..... we know our weather is crap, we already know the steaks are crap and we already know that you make good wine.....so don't go on about it all the time when your over here

I don't approve of all you swarthy foreign types swanning over here with your spicy foreign food and stealing jobs from hard-working square-jawed Brits with proper, dependable names like John and Tom and Bill.
