Blue leather - why ?

but I prefer bright red leather even more Agreed - so many of the ones I looked at had blue leather which I really don't like. It somehow looks a bit 80s (reminds me of the leather in my dad's supra when I was a boy). Of course, it's all a matter of taste (or lack of) before the blue leather brigade rise up in a chorus of disapproval to this thread.

My 997s has a black interior.
A previous 996 C4S I had had a blue interior. The vast majority of people who saw it commented (in common with another post on this thread) on the "black" interior of the 996.
Never saw a problem with it. Also, made bugger all difference at trade-in time.

My 2 other porkers had black leather, and looked good. My current 996tt has blue.
When I first saw it in the pics, nope , yuk. The went to see the car in the flesh.
it was smart, clean, tidy and smelt nice....mmmmm could get use to this..... hence I now have a blue leather. The car ity was attached to was incidental of course! :wink:

My 993tt has blue leather, but I really like it and find that it goes well with the ocean blue metallic paintwork. Had no idea that it was considered outre and naff - am now going to cry myself to sleep!
For me the rough colours for the interior are red (whore's boudoir) or white (doesn't always age well), but it's horses for courses I s'pose.

Tonker, I owned one for over two years and now own one with a black interior.
There is a small difference but I don't agree that it's as offensive to the eye as you allude.
I take it you've actually seen both of these side-by-side?

Oh no. I've just bought a 993 - with blue leather. Will I be able to live with the embarrasment now I've read this thread???
To be honest, I was not that keen on the blue leather, but I agree with someone else on this thread that it does look better in real life than in pictures.
I looked at 11 993's before buying mine, and they were all light grey or dark blue interiors. Not a black one to be seen. The grey ones looked quite dirty because I guess they are really hard to keep clean.
The worst I saw (although admitedly only in pics), was a silver one with an all red interior. Why anybody ordered that in the showroom I can't imagine. It was red seats, carpets, dash, steering wheel the whole lot. Looked like an abatoir on a busy day!

Impartially (mines got black) I think the blue is dark enough to be very acceptable - it looks worse in the pics because the flash hi-lights the colour. To my mind it's the second most acceptable colour. The grey looks awful as does the red and savanah. It wouldn't be so bad if they put some contrasting trim in, but when you order a 'grey' interior, that's axactly what you get, everything grey.... It looks like a tin of paint has exploded.....

Agreed.
Grey = salesman's shoe colour
Savannah = regurgitated cat food.
Porsche make great cars but have a shocking colour selection
agreed, metropole blue looks awful although not as bad as savannah which looks hideous next to the black plastic in the 996/986 and don't like grey for the same reason (although it looks OK in a 993)
the 987/997 take colours much better as the plastic is at least colur coded (such that for eg sand beige looks acceptable where savannah did not)
I love red but it has to be the right red, I believe Porsche do 3 shades - boxster red which looks I do not like as it is a camp orange tinge and looks like its faded in the sun. Lipstick red - jesus h christ its bright (think Tarantino whore house). However flamenco red is lovely, a proper deep red.
my top 996 colours:
1. Flamenco Red
2. Dark Grey natural - as it looks black but feels lovely and doesn;t crease like the normal leather
3. Black
and thats it
as I find silver dead boring i struggle to find second hand cars I like
all heavily IMHO

Is there more than one metropole blue?
I had it on a boxster 2003...it was a grey blue and looked nothing like the blue of other earlier cars.
Compared to black which looked very dreary the blue looked very classy.
I think you have to see it in person and in decent condition.
seal grey with metropole blue...classiest combo :-)
Edited to add i had full blue leather...so i think need to distinguish between too much old blue plastic and nice blue grey leather.
