Great combination unless you are ever planning to do a trackday - will be around 103 - 105 dB on the static test. That will boot you off most circuits. If you pass that, you will trigger the noise meter on the driveby when you hit top cam.

The dealership I got mine from ran exactly the same mods. On hard acceleration it sounded like Darth Vader was sat on your shoulder, fighting for supremacy with a violent bark!! It was superb.

Bell&colvill have a an Exige demonstrator with Lotus stage 2 and a Pipercross. I took it out for 10 minutes and couldn't stand it.

I drove that car - I didn't like it at all - no faster than my 111s in real terms and sadly had kn*ckered tyres with no grip at the rear.

Towzer , what didn't you like about it? Mine already sounds loud due to stage 2 - not everyones cup of tea for daily driving I know but I love it.I think the Pipercross would only make it sound louder and therefore better.

It was just too noisey and too raw compared to 111R, IF I was looking for a racing car then it would have been great but I wanted somethign that was fun and had some creature comforts. don't forget that I'd been used to a 911 and M3 prior to the Elise.

Maybe I'm getting old!!

I am definitely going to get one of these, one question though, does it not get incredibly dirty in the air scoop?

Especially in the wet! How hard are they to clean and how often do you need to do it?

Looks cool those air intakes! I guess since they origenal on the Exige, you will ot get any problem with it, just a bit more air and better looks, don't know about the rest though...

Say you're driving next to a lorry on the motorway and there's loads of spray, will this affect the engine?

Shouldnt do, that is why you have a filter. There are a lot of folks who use a water injection. It uses a fine mist of water in the fuel air /mix to cool the load. This can add up to 10 - 15 bhp in a SC Mk1 Mr2. The cooler the air fuel mix the more dense and this has a significant effect on power. A cool air feed interupted by warm air will significantly improve the engine efficiency.

Variations of 5-7 bhp cn be accounted for in this way. That is why I am dismissive when people claim gains of around 5 bhp. That can be down to atmospherics or variation in the rolling road etc.

The filter in that position will get extremely dirty. Even with the kits that I supply for the K series which use a tube going from the side air vent to the filter, the filter does get quite dirty and should be cleaned ideally every 3000 miles. Only take a few mintues to do but you do need to consider this. And not being too hands on, is this going to cause problems for you?

Ah now I see when I saw your writing I took a closer look, I had to lighten the picture a lot to see the airfilter in the airscoop!
And yes, that can atrack a lot(not woman) dirt, when you drive Paris/Dakar
But its a good cold and direkt fresh air point too!
You almost can see it as a Ram Airfilter but yours not on top of the car but in the side...but that also makes the intake trajeckt longer! so you also have to have some fat pipework fitted to the filter...otherwise the engine has to breath through a long reedpipe?
