With dignity. If the folk you work with seem antipathetic, and the job worthless, why give it and them a kicking? It is wasted energy. Revenge is for cowboy movies and despotic leaders. Best put your enthusiasm into whatever you want for your future.

Not to mention a reference, being in LA you'd know it's especially important not to burn your bridges, lots of people know other people and you may never work in that town again. Thats why everyone in LA is so nice all the time even when they are faking it, they are too afraid of offending anyone and ruining their chance at being an actor or something

Go with dignity, as said by L.A. Also those who give a big shout when leaving a job are only confirming to the boss what a good job his/she has been doing, getting up your nose.

You can crack a joke about it.
When I left a factory job many years ago after prolonged back trouble, the shop floor manager had me in for a stern warning.

"You're only here four days a week on average" he said "why's that"

"You don't pay me enough to manage on three" I replied.

After he calmed down I explained I'd passed my uni entrance exam and I was on my way.

He laughed and wished me all the best.

When I left my last employer, my ex workmates had a collection for me, which I thought very touching. As they were of a similar mindset to myself (couldn't wait to get out), I remembered a gift from a previous employer. I bought a picture, and asked them to sign the back for me.

The picture?

Steve McQueen, the Great Escape, on motorbike, posing near the Swiss Border.

I quit a job at Tandy's by setting up a PC that we were selling (cos they only sold them boxed up at first...)hooking up a printer and printing "Dear manager, I quit, as of now."

Signed.

And thrusting it in his hand on my way out of the door. He was a dick and deserved no better though, and I didn't need the reference

Normally I leave on good terms.

Once told a manager at work who used the classic "There's no I in Team" after i refused to go and do some team building shit "No, but there's a U in Cunt".

They didn't have me back next holiday

To be honest it was only because they treated me like crap, on the whole i believe that if you're paid to do something you should bloody well do it properly or don't bother at all. I don't understand people who moan/skive work, i mean, if you havn't got anything better to do shut up as it's not helping you being a whinger, and if you can think of something to do bloody well do it!

Cheers,
Rob.
