A HIGH-FLYING TV executive pulled out in front of a speeding
motorcyclist, causing a collision which killed the rider in a fireball,
a court heard today.
Dafydd Evans, 41, of Penylan, Cardiff, south Wales, had already pulled
out past a give-way sign at a junction as the first in a convoy of bikes
sped by, the jury was told.
When he pulled his silver Mercedes out further on to the A40 near
Dryslwyn, Carmarthen, he was hit by a Yamaha motorbike ridden by Darran
Beynon.
The machine erupted in a ball of fire, throwing the 24-year-old, of Five
Roads, Llanelli, across the carriageway and killing him.
The accident happened on a half-mile section of straight road where the
bikers claimed to be travelling at or near the 60mph limit.
Evans appeared for trial at Swansea Crown Court where he pleaded not
guilty to causing death by dangerous driving in October 2004.
He is director of development at Tinopolis, a successful Llanelli-based
TV production company which last month mounted a successful £36 million
hostile takeover for larger rival, the Television Corporation, which
produces Question Time for the BBC.
Geraint Walters, prosecuting, told the jury: “There is no doubt in this
case that the manner of the driving caused the death of Mr Beynon.
“The question is, was the driving dangerous.”
He said that Mr Beynon, who was assistant manager at an ATS garage in
Llanelli, was a member of a motorcycle club.
On the Sunday on which the accident happened he had been among a group
of six motorcyclists who had toured the countryside.
They were heading to nearby Llandeilo to break for coffee when the
accident happened. Four of the bikers had already passed Evans.
Mr Walters said all the bikers would be giving evidence during the trial
and some would say how Evans pulled out abruptly on to the road.
At least one made a point of swerving to go around him before the fatal
collision which claimed Mr Beynon’s life, the prosecution said.
Mr Walters said that on the day of the collision Evans had driven to the
area to attend a Christening in Llandeilo.
When he failed to arrive on time he went to a pub instead where he had a
pint of Guinness.
He was then called to the Christening by a friend where he ate and
allegedly drank champagne, white wine and red wine before leaving in his
car with the friend and his son.
They headed to another pub, which proved to be closed, and continued on
for several minutes to what was to be the scene of the collision.
Mr Walters told the jury that after the accident, when the police
arrived on the scene, Evans’s car was still there but he and his
passengers had gone.
It was not until the following day that he presented himself at
Carmarthen police station and was then interviewed repeatedly over
several weeks.
He was then to claim that, as he stopped at the junction, the motorbikes
that passed him were travelling at up to 100mph.
“Two motorbikes passed me. I thought to myself, honestly now on my
mother’s life, that those were the two fastest motorbikes I have ever
seen in my life,’ Evans told the police.
He told them that as he waited at the junction he still felt he had
enough time to get out.
Mr Walters said: “He maintained that what he did was to carefully look
to the right. He saw motorbikes, they were a long way off.
“He judged that he had got enough time to pull over the off-side and be
on his way.
“The fact that he misjudged it was was due to the speed of the bikes,
effectively,” Mr Walters concluded.
The case was adjourned to tomorrow.
What the hell has the speed of the bikes got to do with this accident? How can he judge if a bike was going 30, 60, 100 or 150 mph? He wasn't paying attention and he kiiled someone. It's down to the person joining the carriageway to ensure it's safe to pull out, not whether it's safe to pull out as long as the traffic is doing 60....
Also, how can you possibly question whether his driving was dangerous? HE KILLED SOMEBODY FFS. How much MORE dangerous does it get?
Send him down for manslaughter. Might make some other tw*ts pay attention instead of pulling out on us next time.

When wealthy fat cats are involved in drink driving accidents, it's just so much easier to blame it on the dead guy! bastards!
The journo that wrote the peice needs his ear bending also, obviously thinks all bikers are law breakers and suicide jockey's. If he wrote something like " the black guy was speeding" he'd ba a racist!! So why does he assume the biker is speeding! because a piss head who's just killed one say's so! must be an honest chap, he drives a mercedes. Or maybe the journo wants to work on the telly.
Is the Motorcycle action Group still around in the UK, they should latch onto this.
In France we have FFMC (Federation Francais de Motard en Colere)basically means the french angry motorcycle group. They are very good at lobbying the gouvernment here and getting bike safety on the agenda. There is alot of solidarity in the motorcycle world, just needs the right people to harness it. A 10,000 bike parade through London for the deceased biker would be a start.
Condolences to the family.
Regards to all, Desmo.

similar thing happened to my son august last year although he wasn't killed, the wpc who
attended decided my lad was at fault despite right of way, no proof of speeding (mz bagheera supermoto) nsl road dry and clear ! we are still claiming againt myopic taxi driver who pulled out on him ,tho we expect the claim to last for years before any
sort of settlement .my lad ended up with broken leg (now pinned) broken toes, broken shoulder dislocated shoulder and lung trauma .to cap it off she took 11 weeks to come round to take a statement this was after she had already decided who was at fault .

His story stinks. The police had tracker dogs and helicopters out, but couldn't find a chubby, middle aged guy who wandered concussed into a nearby field??? How did he get concussed?
Why did his mate just dissappear with his son? More like they both did a runner, because they knew they were both over the limit and completely at fault.
B*ll*cks!! The lying
must of thought he was writing for one of his rubbish TV programmes when he made that one up.
