I missed the article in the paper - just saw the baby sleeper gizmo on the dragons den. It wasnt on the show, but I hear someone stole their idea, and the sleeper is now in mothercare. Why didnt they patent the idea if they believed in it so much

Couple of guys created a baby sleeper (push rear pram wheels into it, it rocks the baby to sleep). On a scale of 1-10 for negotiating skills, they scored a -65 or so. Said they didnt want to go directly to mother care and give up the potential of a wider market, and ended up not getting any money on account of a 10% margin they refused to budget on (wanted 150k for 5%)

Wicked product though, its now in mothercare, and they lost out (so my girlfriend said) but I dont know exactly how it happened, am just guessing they didnt bother patenting it.

So it just repeated their DD appearance then?

I thought it might have been an update, or clips they've not shown before.

Oh well ....

Thanks for the update.

Hells Teeth, £80 .... seems like quite a lot of wonga to me, not seen one in the flesh admitedly but would have thought someone could produce something very similar to retail at around £30-£40 and still have a relatively decent profit in there. Wonder what their competitor's price is?

1st attempt was the worst pitch on dragons den, ever! they came back this series to try again & I think the dragons said no because they now had competition in the market.
they originally valued their business at being £600m when they hadn't even sold any by then! (strange they repeated the series one pitch for 10 mins the other week)

did the red letter days or duncan banatyne ever buy-into any of the pitches? (i know the jewellery one)

To paraphrase one of the dragons, it was a good idea, it might have yielded some good retail turnover for a limited period, but he would only invest on the basis that the inventors where kept well away from the company. As to a patent, I doubt there were any siginificantly original inventions in the sub-components ... could you patent the whole thing ... i.e. "an electrically powered baby rocker"?

From what I remember of our kids being babies I would have paid £80 ten times over to get the little feck . . . darlings to sleep if something like that had been available!
