Targa question.

the spy pics of the 997 targa 4s/turbo etc got me wondering if the tint on current targas' roof glass helps to protect the leather interior from sun damage in the long-term and the cabin from becoming a sauna?

IIRC there is UV protection in the glass, plus a tint, but the main point is that there's a electric blind which gives a coupe-like darkness to the interior. I would certainly use that if I was leaving the car standing in the sun.

I just got rid of a 996 targa and there were no issues with the roof - only a good thing as far as I was concerned - light airy cabin when you want it, sun blind when necessary and almost a soft top with the roof right back on a sunny day

got a real tan on the way to/from le mans last year!!!

No issues that I know of, although depreciation seems to be worse than the coupe for some reason.

Is it heavier with any compensatory reinforcements becse of the glass than a coupe?

a tad heavier but nothing that really effects preformance

but with more headroom it transforms the summer and autumn....
