Chaps, thoughts please.

Been offered 2 Avon ZZ3 Tyres 245/40 18's for FREE (only scrubbed) Tyres spec'd for my car are Michelin Pilots (B10 3.3 Alpina)

I feel it's worth putting them on to see what their like as my MOT is due soon and I have one nearly illegal front. If their no good it's only cost me the fitting charge. So what do you chaps think?? I don't drive the car hard only give it stick in a straight line....! (2 months driving a rear wheel drive car!! )

Thanks, Mark

Mark,

ZZ3's are certainly much better than the ZZ1's that preceeded them. However, they're not in the same league as a Michelin/Pirelli/Bridgstone etc. Still, you'll know soon enough how you feel about them. And they're FREE, so enjoy!

If they are anything like ZZ1s then avoid like the plague - they are worth exactly what you are paying for them.

Had ZZ1s on my old Corrado... scary stuff, especially in the wet.

Thanks for the responses. I think pay the £20 get them fitted and test how they perform, I'll report back and let everyone know when their fitted towards the end of the month.

Cheers,

Had ZZ3s on a 323 saloon. Were ok but noisy.

Had some Avon's on the back of my 328ci a few years ago, was trying to save a few bucks. for the first time ever, I actually felt the difference immediatley. I took them back a couple of days later saying the handling was awful, they just pumped them up a bit harder. I got used to them after a while and convinced myself they were ok.
It was only a couple of months later, when driving some mates who were sat in the back - they said straight away that the back end felts soft and wobbly - which was exactly what i was thinking at the time.
Took the car back and got the tyres swapped for the OEM pilots and normal service was resumed.

Having said that, just fitted some avon 225's on the front of the wifes e36 325 and they seem fine.

Ok....Thanks for the comments chaps. Looks like I need to be careful and see how the car behaves. Otherwise I'm going to have to get the plastic out...(Best price in Pilots has been £159 fitted per rim) I will report back.

Thought I'd post back as promised. Had them fitted today, seem fine. As they were fitted to an M3 for 3-4 Laps f Keevil I need to get the surface back to being smooth (if that makes sense, tyres had been well abused). So I'll see how they behave.
