Double Skin - Insulate?

One week to go. Garage done. Whole kit minus box and engine being delivered next Saturday. Yippee!

I'm trying to stick to build manual as much as possible, but I can't get out of my mind that if I don't insulate/sound proof the double skin void now, I'll be regreting it later.

Anyone done this, and if so what have you used?

I insulated everywhere.
I used the stick-on heavy rubber-like sound deadening to the ali panels and filled the cavity in double skins with sound felt.
I also double skinned the roll bar behind the driver. if you do this you must only bond the ali skin as drilling for rivets could weaken the roll bar.
If you look in my web site you will see all the double skinning and insulation.
Another Ultima owner tells me it works in comparison to his.

You need to host your photos somewhere then link to them from your post.

I use firefox and had the same problem, but...

1) click on the link to get the "Forbidden" error.
2) click on the url box and press enter and the picture appears!!??

VERY strange.

I took the garage link away because it was no longer seen anymore? I gues its erased from the website where it stood on making the link, that way its also no longer viseble around here sadly...

Yes Rene, I mocked up an MDF dash to try out the 'traditional' location for instruments - behind the wheel. So far so good. Making a good job of a cowling and integrating into the OE dash is a different story.

Yep, you've had some very nice cars indeed, and a very good comparison that way to feel the difference in the higher class of sportcars, hope you share with us what car you like the best and why...and when your Ultima is ready, how does that do and feel in comparison with other supercars...what is best overall?

a mockup? now THAT is committment. Most people seem to be either content/dissatisfied with the standard setup, never impressed. I remember seeing a yellow sport with a green line through the top/middle of it advertised for sale in the past. It had a very nice behind the steering wheel binnacle. One thing I noticed was that the vents were more "sausage" shaped to provide extra room for the binnacle. I think there were 3 along the dash. The standard setup has two on the top, one at each side, the one on the right will get in the way. Stig has offset his a little for the stack setup. Depends on your preference.

Glad you like my new home!

I hope from my profile it's clear that although those cars are in 'previously owned' they should be in a section called 'previously borrowed'!! They are all P1 International's cars. A year of automotive indulgence!! And although £15K up front seemed a bitter pill to swallow at the beginning of the year, now I would recommend it to anyone. Especially good for people like me who, before P1, had no 'previous' with high performance/high value cars.

To answer you question Rene, yes, as expected, I rated all the cars I borrowed in four categories - looks/practicality/sound/performance, each from 1 to 10. Max 40. Top three? Vanquish 35, Murci 32 and Gallardo 30. (Vanq only walked it as I foolishly had a practicality category which kind makes a mockery of a supercar poll). My real favorite was the Murcielago - 3000 miles to Monaco and back via Stelvio Pass and Milan. Nice. Joined the 200 club in germany to cap it.

Bottom three? Aston DB7 vantage 21, AC Cobra 22, Noble M12 (sorry don't like it's looks) 23

Just my feelings on these by the way - I don't wanna start WWIII!

At the end of the year I went out an bought a 3200GT (the 4200 in P1 scored 27 - even with those lights!). Thought the 3200 had the right mix of exclusivity/style/performance - and value!

Anyway. That was P1 and the lasting thought of it was....all those horses but all those electrical supports making you appear a better driver that you really are - wasn't sure who was driving half the time.

So, Ultima 550GTR it is! Reckon the Ultima would be about an 8 for looks, 5 for practicality (bovered?), 8 for sound and 10 for performance. 31 - yeah about right.

Good explanation Pete, and now I understand better about the P1 case, a nice way to decide what type off car to go after.
31 points is a good thing on your carmeter and if you added points for neckwrenching looking people I gues the Ultima GTR ads one of the highest points, say 9 or 10...
