hi everyone, just to let you all know i picked up my car as planned today, it drives great but ive been taking it very easy due to the poor weather, 1 thing ive noticed is the temp gauge sits at 90 or just over when in town or in traffic, it wont go any higher than this though, also ive experienced a problem already, the hot start problem, bascly if the engine is hot the car wont turn over, i know its something to do with the starter motor solinoid or something similar, is there a simple quick fix to this and could anyone give me any advicce on how to fix it as its very annoying.

im going to london in it tonight and then its going to be handwashed tomorrow, keep in mind ive had to drive nearly the entire length of the M4 today with spray and crap everywhere
, then tomorrow night its going to get tucked up in the garage for a few days rest,and hopefully enough time for me to figure out what to do about this annoying hot start problem.Looks really nice, enjoy !
My Griff always sits at 90 or just over - and has never overheated / had any problems.
The hot start problem caught me out a few times soon after I bought the Griff - it is the starter solenoid and after about 20 minutes of cooling the car will start. It gets worse over time ..... I got so fed up with it I had a new starter motor fitted and that cured it - at least for now! A heat shield is recommended by many but was removed by the guy who fitted my new motor (David Batty) as he doesn't think they actually help and end up keeping heat in. As far as I know the only cure for this problem is a new motor once it gets bad. I got to the point that a 20 minute blat even in cold weather would result in non start for a further 30 minutes.... rather enbarassing every time I filled up with petrol and then had to just sit there and drink coffee!

The temp doesn't sound like it's too much of a problem. Have a look and see if both fans are running when its been idling for a few minutes after a run. As long as it doesn't go much above 90, I wouldn't be worrying too much at the moment. TVR gauges aren't renowned for their accuracy. Its more important that the gauge settles on a position and stays there, continually creeping up is what you've got to look out for.

Just make sure it doesn't get too much hotter than this in the summer... thanks for the welcome everyone, im love the car apart from the hot start problem oh and the passanger door catch wouldnt shut for a while last night, 1 thing i did notice was it ran quite hot in london traffic last night,certainly not up at near 110 or anything but i would say it got to about 95 the fans were all working perfectly and it never moved over this amount, as soon as i got on the motorway and some air got through it, it went back down to 80ish i guess, i remember reading theres a mod that can bring the fans in earlier, i wouldnt mind trying this if its not a mammouh job to do yourself, also does anyone know what starter motor the griff takes? im going to get a new one and try the hot start fix, i guess a range rover V8 starter motor is right?, or is it a TVR part?,also is it ok to bump start a griff?, i havent as i remember reading on one of the forums that you cant bump start however i cant remember if it was for a griff or a cerbera.
You'd probably kill yourself trying to bump start a Cerbera

) but as you've seen it will cool down as soon as there's some decent air blowing through them. No TVR is utterly content in traffic, but so long as the fans are funtional and the radiator is a good'un you'll be fine. Again the Cerbera is far worse than the Chims and Griffs in this sense, you'd regularly see the temp going way over 110, even with an alloy radiator!
Apart from that, I echo the other sentiments in the thread - keep the grin and get the roof off as often as possible. Griff 500 and he's not even 25..... lucky sod!

i dont have a tracker fitted to it, i might get one when i have the spare cash as i want to save money for if something goes wrong at the moment, it was parked in a side street of which i could keep my eye on the car the whole time i was there, i didnt stay up in london long as i was tired, today the car got hot and i noticed one of the clips for the fan had come slightly out so i pushed tightly together and problem solved the fans came in good as ever.
i wouldnt mind getting the thermostat which cuts them in earlier though just to be prepared for summer etc, i washed the car today and bought some antifreeze and waxoil in preparation for when i need it, as it was dry today i managed to put my foot down a little bit and yes it is fast and the noise is lovely, havent managed to take the roof off on account of not been able to get it in the boot with the spare tire in there!!!!!,im off to tuck it up in a nice warm dry garage for the week soon, one thing i have noticed is that chaved up corsas/saxos etc constantly trying to get me me to have a race with them, i was driving it down a wet road last night(hence the good wash today, im not used to the car so im not going to go putting my foot down especially in the conditions and it was fairly built up, i must have been doing 35ish and this corsa with a big bore exhaust overtook and caused me to brake to let him in before he hit an oncoming car, probably was up the pub telling all his mates how he beat a TVR and how his car was quicker etc. i dont really care though i was driving appropiatly for the car in those conditions and i didnt feel i had anything to prove, does anyone else get stuff like that happening?.
i know the griff has niggles and im quite undersanding of it, although the hot start problem is annoying i accept its one of those things that happens with them and it hasnt tarnished my first few days of ownership, i would however like to fix it as quickly as possible,also to add im not quite 25 yet, i wish i was my insurance would probably be cheaper, im currently 23.
