I am confident enough building a Computer myself... As long as that doesn't include the motherboard, or CPU

How much would you say it would cost to get a very basic system built up consisting of something like:

Thermaltake Tsunami Dreams case Here
AMD Athlon64 4000+
A8N32-SLI Deluxe Motherboard
All fans, Decent PSU (about 450w) etc...

All the rest of it I am fine fitting myself... Any ideas then how much on top of components I would be charged to get these chucked together?

Dave.

do it you self m8 its easy

screw the board in the case smear some heat sink grease on top of chip
lift locking leaver on chip socket
just dont use any forse and lay drop in
gently drop the chip It will only go in one way round

push locking leaver down fit heat sink.
trust me if you can built the rest it aint hard to drop a cpu in mother board

you love the
A8N32-SLI Deluxe Motherboard

i got one my self

what grafix gards you thiking of
and are you intending a twin card sli set if so
think biger when it comes to power supply

if you was any where near me ill show you how

comeon guys aint there ant ph ers near him that can show him how to drop a cpu in

What he said

It looks easy enough and know all the theory behind it, but don't want to risk ruining something haha

And graphics card either something like a X1800XT if I'm going psycho.. bigger PSU would do the job for little extra cash so 600w is fair enough
Otherwise something like X850XT...

Dave.

Dave,

You wont blow anything up, he is right. Go for very fast SATA drives if its for speed. PCI-E SLi, and DDR2 RAM.

I might have something that would interest you here, as you are into graphics in a heavy way;
Silicon Graphics Octane Cluster. 4 x Silicon Graphic Octanes (motoring theme) , with granite screen. 64 bit UNIX (IRIX) on each.
Yours for less than you will spend on that lot!!!

Take care

Justin

Put it this way, can't see it running GT Legends very well

Windows Drivers may be a bit of a bitch too

If you're going with an ATi graphics card, it might be worth looking at an ATi Crossfire chipset based motherboard, as SLi only works with nVidia cards, which would rule out adding another card at a latter date.

Also if you're not going SLi Asus do cheaper motherboards (even SLi) than the A8N 32, the A8N 32 is specifically optimised for SLi, because it has:

2x PCi express 16 slots

as opposed to

1x PCi express 16 or 2x Pci express 8

which is more common (and cheaper).

BTW I've just got an ASUS A8N 32 /w 2x 7800GTs

Wow that case is a bit expensive dave looks nice though.

Remember to invest in a decent power supply. Its often overlooked but its a critical part of the pc. Stable power rails that can provide enough juice is what you need for a sli or crossfire setup. You'll often find that motherboards also require a secondary power connection (As does my asus A8N-SLI). A decent PCI-E card requires at least 400watts or so for stable operation, more power the better, particularly if you intend on clocking later on.

I went for a Seasonic 600W Sli PSU. Its a bit steep @£100 or so but its an excellent unit and will be fine when i upgrade etc etc..

Whatever you do dont run your new system with the cheapo shit they stick in the cases - it wont do your hardware/1st build experience any favours

Yeah the case is a bit pricy... Definately going for that one those it's just so and it'll look good at the GTL LAN

I'm still looking round, might build myself or as xiphias has kindly offered, slip a few notes for someone else to do it

As soon as Motherboard, CPU and PSU are in i'm fine.. I know it's easy but it's not all my cash so guarantee that it will go to plan is needed

Noooooooo that must stand out like a sore thumb. Mines still pristine after eight months - even after I set it on fire on Christmas day
