I've owned my car for a year and a half now and it has always had squeaky hinges. Westover have looked at this on every occasion its been in for something and they never solve it. They reckoned that it was a fault with the hinges themselves. When you open the door you can really hear how rough it is. Well I to had tried to solve this with no luck until today. I sprayed some spray grease into the right had side of the hinge which is almost imposible to see and it worked !!!! I cant believe it, all this time and they now feel like new, no grinding sound, just light swinging doors as they should be ! Its funny how the little things can make such a difference. There is nothing more embarasing than getting out of the car in a car park and the doors squeak !

Good for you Oliver, but I'm afraid the noise will come back, and you only get it away by spraying it once in a while, but with some good lubrication or grease it will be gone for a few days or weeks when you get lucky.
But you now know at least where it comes from and where to spray

Pump a few drops of engine oil onto the hinge/door check.

The squeak is probably not the hinge, but the flat metal spring which holds the door open at full opening. I usully pop the side indicator repeater out and then feed grease onto the back of the hinge using wooden skewer. If you do this, and open and shut the door a few times, you can work the grease onto the working face of the spring (easier to do than to explain!), which cures the squeak and smooths the door opening action.

I bought a can of spray grease from Halfords. You can aim it through a straw and it travels far so you can do it from a distance. I think your right about the hinge plate, thats what was doing it. All sorted not, cheers.
