Flashed?

Aren't they SPECS?

As far aas I know, they are not SPECS but are of the digital gatso type. Also, if you look carefully, you will see that there are two cameras per site, 1 which photos the rear of the car and the second takes a photo of the driver from the side.

The scameras in the Limehouse Link are not SPECs, they are digital and they flash:

New generation digital cameras have been deployed in the Limehouse Link tunnel. Vehicles speeds, at these locations, are measured using sub surface loops and the images are recorded to WORM (write once read many times) drives. These images can be transmitted via a secure line to the processing unit of the MPS.

These are the Limehouse link cameras. 3x these in each tunnel.
www.redspeed-int.com/en/products_redspeed.htm

Your NIP will be in the post since your photo is automatically passed to LSCP HQ.
I use the tunnel everyday and almost no-one takes the p*ss going past the three cameras since its common knowledge you will get done for this!
I personally think the speed limit is far too low at 30 seeing as it pedestrian and cyclist free but hey I don't decide these things.

Many thanks for the clarification. Appreciated.

I was once flashed on the way in, westbound, and received no NIP.

By the time someone first suggested to me that they were SPECS, I had (shall we say) amassed enough evidence to be able to assure them that they couldn't possibly be! However, a taxi drivers' journal once said they were, so that's what the cabbies all tell everyone.

definately not specs although origin b2 says it is, presumably because it cant warn of all 3 cameras seperately with no gps signal.

When these cameras were first switched on, London Tonight (TV News programme) interviewed one of the operators. He said they are digital and every image is logged but they are still checked by a person (I nearly said human there). The third camera was to detect tailgating which they would prosecute for.
I got flashed (two not three times)a week before Christmas although I am not sure whether it was me or the car just in front of me that triggered it as I was just entering the marks as he was just leaving. I haven't heard anything yet but it would have to go via my company and there was the Christmas break to take into account as well.

I have an origin b2 and have always assumed that they were specs cameras, as that is what it stated.

Because I assumed it was SPECS, I never slow down for the first camera (in either direction), I just go through at what I think is a safe speed. I would estimate that I have been flashed by the first camera in both tunnels at least 40 times in the last year, and have NEVER had a ticket through.

I will be slowing down for those first cameras now though, and warning my other biker mates, that also get regularly flashed by the camera!

Although I am confused (and relieved) as to why I have never received a ticket if they are normal cameras.

One other strange things with these cameras is the position of them. They seem to be above the vehicle, rather than pointing at number plates. Any reason?

I have wondered about their downward positioning too, also certainly going east to west there are 3 cameras beginning of tunnel end of tunnel and one in the middle, that doesn't seem like specs theory to me.

Thats new. I haven't heard of tailgating cameras existing in this country (yet?).

I really do hope they don't become real. As much as we all don't like tailgating, using cameras are just going to cause more problems. There will be errors. There will be safe drivers prosecuted. It's bad enough with speed cameras. With all of Labour's stealth taxes, is there still not enough money for a few more traffic police?

Sorry rant over.

Sounds like more urban myths, the site I posted previously contains information about how these camera work doesn't mention tailgaiting.

Also I'm suprised at the number of ppl who thought they were specs as they are nothing like the same shape and design of the type approved SPECS. Maybe I just get a much better look at them on a motorcycle without a roof in the way.

Also suprised at the number of times ppl say they have been flashed an not sent a NIP as I thought the whole idea of a digital camera was to remove the randomness of if the camera had film or not.

Maybe everyone else likes to keep both eyes on the road/traffic?

Seriously, most people (a) aren't 100% up to date with every different shape of camera out there; and (b) don't trust "the authorities" not to come up with new shapes for old devices (and vice versa)!

Well don't know about anyone else I have to keep a careful eye on the speedo as it is all too easy to exceed 30 into either of the tunnels. I've often wondered how speedo watching past a camera is safer than paying 100% attention to the road ahead.

Yer you're right, when they first fitted I thought they also speed averaged to until I found the info to tell me otherwise. To be honest I actually avoided using the tunnel until I found out how they worked!

Interesting this is such an old thread.

One question - I was pulling of onto the slip road and I do not think as a result, my car was over the central lane distance measure lines. Might it still be that the camera proves the breaking of the speed limit and the measuring lines are a secondary backup?

No matter what it might be, I will not be trying to appeal. Just gutted these are more than likely going to be the first set of points in my 17 years of clean and careful driving.

The resurrection is only because I last night (about 12:30/45) got a double flash from behind. It is with hand on heart I can say I have been a model driver for near 18 years now. It was most certainly down to my not paying attention. I thought it was a 40 and was duly cruising at 40 because I know there are camera's!

So it appears that my observation is not as diligent as I first thought, not good.

I will keep you posted as to if anything comes through for me. Will be gutted if it does, but I was breaking the set limit at the time.

.Cheers.....Q.
