For the S2 if cost is no object, Stick with the bridgestones - can be had for £370 a set fitted or £414 a set with the fitter coming to you (event tyres), or get the yokohama ad07 tyres available from the dealer only. Will be closer to £450 iirc. Standard price for all dealers - remember they charge for fitting as well.

The Bridgestones are supposed to be slightly better in the wet, the yoko's better in the dry. The current feedback on the yoko's appears really good, but I have no personal experience. They are the new lotus oem tyre.

never mix tyres. If you want to keep your front tyres, you should get another pair of the OEM Bridgestones for the rear.

Another option are Toyo Proxes T1R 195/50 R16 front and 225/45 R17 rear. Which are about 300 GBP the set. They are better than Bridgestone RE40 or Yokohama AD7 in the wet and fit on standard rims. And due to the extra width at the front, they understeer less than the OEM tyres.

Sorry, I should have clarified - all my refences were to sets of tyres. As chouca correctly says, never mix tyres on an elise. Never. Either stay with bridgestone or get a whole new set.

cheers guys, reading from other links on PH i have gathered that mixing the tyres is a definate no no. Because i still have at least 6-10 k left on the fronts i guess i will be just replacing the rears which leads me to the 040's. Thinking about it that means i will have done 30k out of a set of fronts including two track days (is that normal or am i driving like an old biddy?)not wanting to pay dealer prices can i get them supplied from else where? and what about the significance of the much talked about dot codes? assuming i need the codes dck,

cheers guys,

ps lots of questions i know but tyres are important and on the elise it seems a mine field

30K from a front set? Driving Miss Daisy? Bus pass?

Only joking - the fronts wear much slower than the rears - 20+K is not unusual.

How old are your front tyres? When I bought my car, the fronts were still the original ones (car build in 2001) and after 15k still had plenty of thread left. But the rubber was hard as brick and started cracking.

Changing to new rubber changed the whole handling of the car.

I say they are original, as i have seen no bills for front tyres from the previous owner. That makes them four years old! and they do apear to have very tiny cracks in the bottom of the treads (having just run outside to check), i think maybe today i will get quotes for all four and just the rears and see what the difference is, cheers for that i hadnt thought about the fronts age and rubber condition, you just tend to think depth when it comes to replacement! better take it easy, no max speed runs on the way home tonight
