Evening all

Just had my uncle on the phone, he's finally got broadband in the BT flavour. He was on Dircon before who had POP servers so he is used to using email that way.

It seems BT Broadband have set him up with a webmail account, which as he will be using for a bit of business as well as personal, isn't ideal at all.

Is there a way of setting up an email client to access his BT Broadband email account? Or is it web only?? If so then it's a bit rubbish, IMHO

Thanks in advance people

Yeah - the email client (Outlook, Thunderbird, etc) can pull in email from multiple accounts so that won't be a problem at all.

I'm with BT too - so what I do is forward all my mails frm my different domains to my BT account - so they all come into 1 place - easier to manage and can read them via Thunderbird or the web.

What are the POP and SMTP servers for BT?

Here's my setting .......

You get to the settings by logging into the webmail, then clicking on 'Options' on the far right-hand side at the top, then click on "POP Access and Forwarding" - one of the options that appears ......

BT Option said:

Server Settings
Incoming Mail Server (POP3): mail.btinternet.com
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): mail.btinternet.com

using SMTP port 587

Account Name/Username: xxx.xxx@btinternet.com
Email address: xxx.xxx@btinternet.com
Password: Your BT Yahoo! Mail password

with BT ensure you have authentication on for SMTP (outgoing), it's a headache otherwise.

Thanks a ton guys. I was on the phone to him last night trying to set it up, it's hard as he has a Mac and I'm not so familiar with the setup on those.

We managed to get the POP to work but it wouldn't send, the authentication was switched off though so that's probably why.

Hopefully switching that on will get it working fully
