I've just sold my X5 to someone in Milton Keynes, who picked it up yesterday. The guy who bought it has just emailed me to say that someone's nicked the photographs from my Autotrader website and is trying to flog it on Ebay! (Item no. 4603078928 if you're interested...)

I've sent an email to Ebay asking them to block the advert and the seller but is there anymore I should/could do.

Many thanks, CG

Is it possible he just owns a similar one and cant make photos for some reason thus has just nicked yours for simplicity??

edit- is the milage/spec in that ad identical?
did you black out the number plate yourself?

Is he hotlinking the images or is he hosting them himself or using ebay servers?

If he is hotlinking, change the image to something less suitable I did that when someone tried to use the photos of my ZR in the same way, I changed it to photos of a prolapsed rectum with suitable text underneath. Of course the person can't change it, only cancel the auction.

If he is using your pictures has he blanked out your registration number on the pics?

If so, then yeah - dodgy - but if his description says that it's identical to the one in the pics - then he won't sell it - as he's a lazy .....

It is also against eBay rules what he is doing, so they should pull the auction.

Car he purports to be selling is totally different to my one and he blanked out the plate - not me.

How do I check if he's hotlinking the photos? Really fancy Muncher's suggestion of changing the photos to something a litte more (less) appropriate...

Zero rating. Very dodgy. They will no doubt ask for a £1000 good will payment when the aucion closes.
Via bank/Paypal before collection.

If you took the original photos, you own the copyright on them. Tell Ebay this (send them an unmodified photo) and they will pull the auction.

Or create a new ebay account and bid the car up to £1,000,000. Then do a runner

He got back to me at 09.57 this morning, he said he lifted the photos from Autotrader to save time but will send me photos of the car if i want, he appears to be called Alex and the registration number is according to him YP51 ZVV.

Hope this helps you.

I've done a HPI check on the registration he's quoted:

Make BMW
Year of manufacture 2001
Model X5 SPORT AUTO
Engine size(CC)4398

Looks like the same info as E-Bay.

Thanks for all your help.

If he is genuinely selling an X5 and lifted the photos to save time, then it strikes me that he's not necessarily someone I'd want to do business with in the first place. After all, if you're trying to flog a 20K but can't be bothered to take a photo of it, it doesn't strike me as someone who'd put a lot of time into prepping the car prior to a sale.

Maybe this is normal and I'm just a bit touchy, but I still think he's a cheeky bar steward!

ps the shots of the interior aren't mine!

Somebody used the picture from my profile here at PH on E-bay last year. He used it as the main picture, but the other pics he used I assume were his own.
No big deal, but he could have mailed me for an ok.
