Anyone need a Spider 18" spare wheel?

Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

I have two anthracite ones in my garage. One is there because over the course of time the wheel stopped being completely round. Used to cause a small vibration in the steering.

Its apparantly common on this design and although companies can remove road blemishes, none can straighten an oval wheel.

So unless you can mount it on a car and spin it, I would say buying these second hand is a bit of a false economy

I bought 3 second hand. Took them down to a tyre fitters yesterday and the head guy checked them for buckling and said they were fine (they are Fernies tyre fitters and so know their spiders). So I hope that that is enough evidence that my wheels are ok?!!!

That sounds like a useful chap to know, gazzab, can you tell us who you went to?

Checking them for buckling is easy. You just mount, spin and look at them, and then check for the know crack positions.

Its just that in a buy on ebay, or buy from a guy situation I would want to do the spin and win test. I think thats gonna be difficult in a private buy situation.
