Morning, as the title suggests I am selling my very reliable (old) 911 3.0SC that I have owned for 4 years and wish to replace it with a modern 2 seater sports car. I cant afford a Boxster S which would be my first choice and I cant decide what to get instead.
I know very little about Alfa's, my old flat mate had a GTV which he loved and I've been in a Spider that had done over 100,000 miles so i guess they are fairly reliable.
I will also be selling my Impreza and the idea is to run the Alfa as an everyday car. My commute to work is now only 13 miles each way.
I've got my eye on a stunning SPIDER 3.0V6 24V but would love to hear from any owners of one of these (past or present) of their experiences or advice on buying etc.
Thanks for reading.

There is a buyer's guide on the Owners Club site which maybe of interest!
It's mainly aimed at the 2.0TS cars, but other than the engine info, the rest is common.

www.aroc-uk.com/BuyingGuides/Spider_gtv.htm

You'll have to join though when you buy one.

Was the 3.0 Spider an official UK car? I seem to remember reading that Alfa wouldn't sell the 3.0 in the UK because the 2.0 was already marginal for scuttle-shake, and the 3.0 showed it up even worse. This might all be mistaken, though, and I stand ready to be corrected.

In the real world, I don't suppose it'll make much difference whether it's an import or not, except maybe for insurance.

Yes, the 3.0 was available as a UK car.
Oldest price list I have to hand is June 2001 and it was listed then.
(£26,340 in case you were wondering!).

Fair enough. I wonder where on earth I got my nonsense from, then? Less cheese before bedtime for me, I think.

Thanks wombat rick. I had already visitied their site and read their buyers guide. Other than the suspension (which sounds better on the V6) there isn't much help there for potential V6 owners....but useful nonetheless.
Have you any experience of driving/owning a V6 yourself. I love the engine note but wonder if the power is OTT for a car of this size.
PS - Fully intend joining the OC if buy one of these.

The 3.0 V6 is widely (and correctly IMO) regarded as one of the best in the business. Compared to the 12V, the 24V needs a bit more revving to get the best from it - above 3500 I'd say.

Can't compare the Spiders because I've only driven a 2.0, but in the GTV the V6 feels slightly (slightly) less nimble than the 2.0, although the extra power and extra noise more than make up for it. Is the power OTT? Definitely not.

It's not the most economical car I've ever run, either for fuel or for servicing, but for most buyers that's not top priority.

I've only had my GTV about 10 months, and the only problem I've had was with a dodgy air-flow meter causing it to splutter a bit at low revs - it's never failed to start, never failed to get me where I'm going, and never suggested otherwise.

If you haven't already, have a look at the forums on www.gtvv6.com.
