Was in General TVR reading the posts on super-charging the Rover V8, I read a few posts from Griff Chim people who said they would rather tune their car for more power than sell up and buy a newer faster Tiv.
It didnt really suprise me as TVR owners are a loyal lot but did make me wonder about the S.
There has been quite a few people round here who have spent thousands tuning their S.
I guess Im just wondering that if the S PistonHead crew was given say four or five thousand pounds would you sell your car and pool the cash together towards a griff or something.
Or spend that money on your current baby?

I really cant decide what Id do. I do think Id love to S/C my S, try to get it to blow the cossie versions away!!!

I Would almost certainly upgrade mine, I have no intention of selling the S, I like to be different newer TVR's are so common......... and I still think a V8 sounds better than a Sp6?

I have been thinking to increase capacity on mine from 4.0 to 4.6 or 5.0 possibly next year, its all about power......? Im going to speak to Austec sometime soon to get an idea of costs so I can start to save up......?

Have you thought about supercharging yours instead Mike?(or as well as lol).
Yours being what it is I dont supose there would be that much difference in the conversion.

You could S/C the old iron lump that is the cologne and you might keep up with the Cossie powered S's. You still have the power delivery of an SC though, albeit less peaky than a turbo and there is only so far you can go with the cologne really.

However, by having custom manifolds made for an S that exit downwards, the cossie is actually a closer fit to the bulkhead and leaves huge amounts of space in front of the egine in an area that is not difficult to cool.....

meaning a supercharger or turbo(s) would be easy(ish!) to add to the cossie engine. And it just so happens the custom manifolds have 2 areas that have removeable plates on them that are bolted down. For now

Was that a V6 Ted? Cant seem to see anywhere that gives it away. Apart from the larger scoop!

I love my S and whilst I love the Griffs, I'm sticking where I am and modifying the S3.
Joo and others are playing with LP turbo's on the V8/S6 engines I believe but with the V6 I'm not convinced that anything other than a warmer cam/headwork and a re-map is advisable without having a go at the bottom end.

I'm going the Cossie route and IMHO its the most cost effective route and when you add in Jenvey throttle bodies and possible further mods, power could be 250bhp

gazman. Have a word with Mike at Boost Performance (posts as Boosted LS1) about manifolds. Whilst most of the cossie conversions are done on a tight budget, if you get the manifolds done properly its a far neater install and means rather than coming out of the front of the engine and bending around, it can neatly all be pushed under the bottom end. Frees up all the space in front of the engine for any later mods

Downside is, of course, the cost. They aren't cheap (more than the engine cost) but they are very neat and do the job properly. oh, and they have blanks if you want to "add anything" later.

Does anybody know what will break first in the V6 when adding lots-o-lubbly power?

Yes
Had a word with him and unless I'm completely happy with the manifolds, I will buy his.

Brand new S/S manifolds could be on the market in the near future.

Shnozz is correct. With those 24v ultra compact cast headers he has plenty of room up front for a belt driven Rotrex supercharger or turbo/s.

loads of things to think of. Gearbox seems to be up to the task though. Uprated clutch possibly an idea and not too sure how long the diff will last. oh, and then there are all those saying the chassis will snap

I love the sound of a cossie conversion, the only thing is a engine swap sounds like a huge undertaking for an extra 60/70 horses. Assuming most S's do put out about 180/190.

'ello mate. You don't miss a trick eh

Not sure if you have seen a back shed cossie conversion for the S, but some that i have seen have a mass of pipes in front of the block that are all over the place. The ones you had made were so much neater and leave the door open for the S/C/turbo route.

24v engines are pretty strong and run for miles. Things to replace as a precaution are the tensioner, timing chain and timing chest internals. If they play up then a lot of damage could ensue.

Not really, I like NA cars much better power delivery IMHO. I have thought about Nitrous Oxide though we will see.
