Thinking of taking the plunge
Discussion
Hi,
Im thinking of selling my current car, and buying a runabout and an oldish Cerbera (P-reg).
I can afford the 2 cars, and the insurance..but I have no idea how much and how often the Cerbera will need to be serviced. Im only planning to use it as a weekend car..so the miles are not going to be massive. How often do they need servicing?
Also I could do with an understanding as to how much trouble a P-Reg with 40,000 miles is likely to give me.
Love the idea of owning one, but worried i might be buying a complete money pit.

Excellent decision!
Service schedule is 6000/12,000 or annually. As it happens, I don't cover the miles and get a proper service (reputable indie) every year, but I also get a pre-Le Mans check up too. I find the car benefits from very regular running or regular fettling.
Good Luck!

At least you're prepared to tell her before hand! There are stories on here about guys who basically turned up at home having bought one!!!
For some reason, mine was very enthusiastic...
I think i bored her into agreeing to it cos she thought i would shut up about them, i think she is now having second thoughts on that idea.
I'm interested in opinions on the running costs of a Cerbera compared to a Griff 500, I've owned my Griff almost 5yrs now and while I love it to bits I'm about to become a father in the next 4 weeks, and it's just not going to be feasible to keep the Griff. So the plan is to run the Griff till late summer (wife and sprog to stay at home till child is a bit older)then sell and by a late model 4.5Cerb or a 911. Will the Cerbera be massively more expensive to run then my current Griff?,which as proved reasonably reliable(little niggles aside)and cheap to run. And what areas are extras costs likley to be incurred? I'd love to stay with TVR but tales of woe and massive repair bills seem to dogged the Cerbera, and have led me to consider the German option

It really is swings and roundabouts as to how much you may need to spend on a Cerb, but i think it is safe to say that it will be more expensive to run than your Griff - the AJP8s need more TLC than the Rovers, and are more difficult to work on hence higher labour costs
