....have apparently decided to place scamera vans on the A1079 York-Hull road. (apologies if this has been posted, I've been a way for a bit so haven't had time to catch up) It comes just a couple of weeks after the accidents caused by the snow over christmas/new year where 200 motorists got stuck.

So....2005s accident stats on that road aren't going to look too healthy after that - helpfully for the SCP, it happened at the end of the year. Now they are going to put scamera vans there and guess what will happen to the accident stats in '06? "Oh look, aren't scameras great for road safety, this accident blackspot has been eradicated!"

Well that rather depends on whether it snows this year or not, doesn't it?

Not necessarily. You would hope that the council might prepare the roads better, thus helping prevent a repeat. I was driving on roads around the area at the time and it seemed as if a snow plough had gone down each road once, piling snow onto one side of the road leaving the other side half clear - made things a bit tricky!

That's a shame, that road is very entertaining to drive down...

No doubt the vans will appear on the long straight sections rather than the twisty bits though...

this is true, but it means overtaking will be a nightmare

Scum. The 1079 is a hard enough road to make anything like progress along without these cretins creating even more havoc.
