Drilling out the holes

<2k miles after picking up the 996tt I see the disc holes are filling up with brake pad material. Nothing that would ordinarily bother me but during the 111 point check pre-purchase it was noted that they needed clearing out, and was done.

If it's something that needs doing I'll be on the driveway every Sunday afternoon with the cordless! There must be 200 holes per disk FFS

Any advice?

You should be able to poke them out with a wire, I doubt you will need to resort to drilling them out.

Holes won't need drilling, I use a small allen key.

A far quicker solution however is to use a garage's air line and blow the dust out. Only problem with doing this is i) don't breath the dust and ii) choose a airline thats away from any other drivers filling up with fuel, as they won't appreciate having themselves and their car covered in your brake dust!

Good idea. I have my own compressor so I'll do that. Wasn't sure how hard the stuff in the holes was.

the dust in my holes was pretty hard.

I drilled mine out a couple of weeks ago.

Once you get going its a simple task and you tend to get into a rhythm with it.

In out put the kettle on.

Never had this problem..if you clean the car(including wheels) weekly this shouldnt happen.....my c4s,gt3 and 996tt never suffered fom this.

I "drill" mine out after trackdays but i do it by hand... just get a small drill bit and poke it through the holes. you dont need your black and decker!!
takes about 5mins a disc after the wheels have been taken off

Nobody cleans a car as thoroughly as me but I think you'll find that doing track days, soft pads and lots of heat and sometimes rain, it get baked in there.

I have 'filled in holes' on my C4S, trackdays, hard driving obviously don't help but it's par for the course with drilled discs. I too use a small drill bit with my hand remove the residue.
