When will the revolution come?
Discussion
There seems to be a lot of anger towards the country today on ph. However it's reasonable debate, and some solid thinking as to why we are in these circumstances. However, there seems to be a lot of unhappiness, and quite a few people have mentioned leaving the country! With at least another three years until the next general election, I can see the situation getting a lot worse.
Now it could just be that ph'ers can be viewed as a mainly middle class lot, and as such the state of affairs is made to seem worse than it actually is due to unbalanced view points. On the other hand, with so many of our civil liberties being taken away (IMO), either "in the name of terror", or "to reduce discrimination", I think at some point people will have had enough and snap.
But what will happen? Will people just emmigrate, or will they fight back? I wasn't a fan of social and economic history in school (although I am now), so I can't extrapolate this to any events in the past. Can anyone see any parallels to prior events, and predict where we might end up going?

The British dont really do revolitions, they just grumble and put up with it. Only unpredictable and tempremental types like the Russians and French will lop the heads of their leaders from time to time once they have had enough opression, British opression is more about pulling the wool over the eyes of the population so they think they are comfortable when they aren't, most of Orwells work is along these lines. Anyone who does have the motivation to do anything will use that motivation to leave.
Sooner rather than later with any luck. I've tried to stop reading too many threads on the utterly rediculous state of affairs with the government and local council as my blood pressure cant take it!!!
I have spent the last 6 months trying to convince the wife that a move abroad would be best, but she's having none of it, doesn't want to be too far from her folks
of course that would just be a bonus for me

Britain has long been a repository of armchair revolutionaries.
I have a friend who has just come back to the UK from a break in South Africa. She couldn't wait to get back here - she said she even felt like kissing the ground at Heathrow when she got off the plane.
There are a lot worse places than Britain.

I'm sorry to say that I think the days when the population could en-mass take on a goverment and win/change it are long past. The state now is much stronger and, at least in terms of it's ability to repress and control, is much more efficient, largely thanks to IT and other technology enhancements.
You try to start some trouble and see how long it is before your assets have been frozen under the prevention of terrorism act.
I think the choice is either stay and hope that things will eventually get better or leave whilst leaving is still an option. Don't forget that if/when bird flu reaches the UK mass travel restrictions will be imposed, and who knows how long such 'emergency' powers will be left in place for?

Yes well SA wouldn't exactly me on my list of liberal 'small' government states either.
Yes there are alot worse places than the UK, but there are also alot better places.

Makes your blood run cold...god only knows what the future is gonna hold but I'm sure it isn't gonna be orange...
I don't think it will ever happen in this country not on mass anyway. There will always be one or two that will snap but often they do more harm than good providing excuses for yet more liberty reducing legislation.
There simply isn't the unity in todays society to do anything realy effective. And by the time organisations are founded with members and commitees the anger and true vitreal is lost.
The classes are now pretty well merged apart from the so called ruling class or elite causing only small pockets of truely downtrodden. Gone are the days of cap in hand to the gentry and opinion is even encouraged taking the boil down to a simmer.
Basically every single detail of our lives has been micro managed to such effect thqat we simply can't afford to abandon the possesions we have worked so hard for.
Look how quickly the riots in France disapeared from view and memory.
I know what you mean though, wouldn't it be great to stick it to the man!

I asked a similar question a while back - how do you start a revolution.

There won't be a revolution. The same thing will happen that happened the last time the blood sucking parasites were in power. Allot of higher tax payers will leave the country and the economy will be in trouble from the high taxes. Both are happening as we speak and eventually the voters might turn aside from celebrity big brother, notice, and vote the Tories back in.
