Hi all, anybody got any recommendations?

I'm talking about recording to disk / time lapse / ftp'ing to a host every couple of mins / support for multiple cameras, that sort of thing?

Cheers!

Not Free but Active Webcam is a goodun... There is a free trial version but leaves it's 'unregistered' crap across the captured image.

And one or two features are disabled, think FTP etc is OK though.

Dave.

Have you already bought the cameras?

If not, network cameras will do lots of the hard work for you. I've used Axis cameras before and can recommend them.

If you have a linux server, try http://freshmeat.net/projects/zoneminder/

Manages multiple camera's, can connect from anywhere (configurable).

Dlink webcams (and probably all other 'security' webcams) come with proprietary software which records constantly or upon motion.

You then take care of the distribution of the consequent data file using normal methods; expose to FTP, batch script copy etc etc.
