of an uncle of mine

He wants to buy a bike, and he has found one that a mate brought, rode for around 4k miles then left standing for 6 months.

Is there going to be anything wrong with a bike that has been standing (indoors) for so long, and what would need to be checked out?

We have checked the tyres and obvious things. The chain needs replacing and so does the rear tyre, but would the engine need any special treatment?

Cheers

Everything else should be OK, but I'd give it an oil change. The only other potential problem could be blocked injectors (if it's fuel injected)as these can be blocked by stale fuel.

The majority of bikes are laid up for 4 or 5 months these days anyway as many people don't like to take them out in the winter.

Fuel will definetlty be an issue. Modern fuels absorb moisture suprisingly quickly and will go stale. Drain tank via the tap and drain floatbowls( there should be a drain screw). Fill with fresh juice and charge/renew battery and you will be away...!
