How would you convert an old bakerlite phone for use with a current BT line ? Also, I quite fancy this old field telephone on ebay and would like to do the same thing . Is this possible ?

Changing the internals of a phone shouldn't be too difficult if you're brave.

Untill I camr to my senses, I thought doing something similar, with a mobile
'brick phone' somehow thinking this would look retro'

If you go on E bay and tap in "Pokia" on mobile phones you will find the phone handsets that just plug into your mobile so when your phone rings in your pocket you pull the handset out complete with curly cable.
Great fun for the first couple of days then you can`t be arsed and it ends up under the sink.

ahh the good old 200 series tele, first you will need to convert the bell coils from 1000 ohm tpo 4000 ohm ( simple resistor will do ) then you need to get the bell in parralel with your bhouse bell circuit rather than in series, next you will probably need a new carbon granule transmitter ( microphone ) as the one in the phone will undoubtably be very noisy, next get a decent quality line cord plug it into your socket and your away.
oh and when your phone line stops working remember to unplug your bakelite phone before you ring your phone company as a callout charge is rarely welcomed .
