Should I buy it. 911 SC with PMPO's ?
Discussion
Hello all,
I am from the "dark side" TVR land, but today I have been offered a friends 911, he is moving away, and needs to sell a few things. So I have been offed this car. You may have seen it before in the magazine below.
My question to you experts is; whats it worth?
Heres the spec, and his description;
Porsche 911 S 1977 2.7 As featured in Porsche 911 World. 6 Months TAX and 12 MONTHS MOT.
Very Minor Exterior Modifications, so cosmetics remain as original. Top end engine Rebuild
New clutch
New PMO Carbs, rated better than $20,000 injection systems. Cost £2,400. These were specially built for this cars set-up.
Brand new full stainless Pro-74 Sports exhaust cost £1,500
New MSD CDI Ignition systems coil and heavy carbon screened ignition leads.
Engine Bay cosmetically, spotless with polished rocker covers, painted lettering, and polished fan housing,
Upgraded cooling fan, duct in bumper to cool oil cooler Electrical Cooling fan under spoiler louvres.
This is just some of the work carried out to this exceptional example.
Ths car is offered at a fraction of its build price. All original parts are available and will be supplied if required. All the modifications are in the interest of reliability. This porsche does not suffer from historic problems with retro 911's. The 911 Plate is included with the car.
Should I buy it for £8,000?

If you want the car and you think it`s worth £8k buy it.
If you don`t want the car and / or don`t think it`s worth £8k then don`t buy it.
Patronising ? Not really, it`s just that once you dip below £10k it`s down to you and the car. Condition will play a massive part vastly outweighing any "theoretical" value the car may have.

8k is basically bottom dollar (privately) for any 911 that doesn't need any work and isn't a rusty pile of poop.
If it doesn't need any work and it's not rusty and you like the car, I'd say 8k was very fair.
Henry and poorcardealer will always have it for 4k if the chap gets desperate

Its not a rusty one at all, in fact its show condition all through. I agree it needs a roll bar, and this would be the first job.
So we are saying £4,000 is safe all day long? Double it and its near its true value?
I dont need or want the car. I know its a very good one thats been well looked after, and goes very well from sitting in the odd position on the right as a passenger!
Should I just offer a low price, and if I dont like using it, flog it on?
I think thats the the bottom line here, if I am honest to fellow pistonheads

If it's worth 8k privately (sounds like it is) then it's up to you if you decide to make an offer. 8k's probably fair as it is. I only mention the 'trade' price because the trade do pitch low for older 911s as they can be a bag of trouble or difficult to shift; plus they want a few k margin. Even if he's your mate, trade price would probably elicit a punch on the nose. He could probably shift it for 7.5k privately any day of the week if he could be bothered to. Who knows, Henry may offer him 6k?

Hmmph, sorry just trying to get the last of the chocolate digestives before they go.
It`s all been said - if it`s as lovely as it looks in the photos then £6k is perfectly feasable. With old cars like this it`s all down to the car. If it was my car and you bid me £4k I`d knock you into tomorrow, into Thursday if you were a "mate".
If you don`t want the car don`t buy it, certainly don`t offend the chap by kicking him in the nuts.
1977 is a long time ago, my silver jubilee mug was brand new, as was that really big coin we all got given. Not only that but the handlebars would appear to be on the wrong side. Roll cages would be the least of my worries, I`d be more interested in looking at the actual car.
Henry.

£4k hmmmm lol.seriously I would have thought the car is worth a punt for a private individual at 7-8K.......the sum of its parts with the PMO's 2.7 engine etc is over £5K if you broke it.......any good condition 911 that drives well is going to give an awful lot of fun for £8K ish
