Hi Everyone

I am interested in a VXR I have seen at my Local Vauxhall dealership. A Monaro VXR, 05 registered in Silver. However, according to the service book, it has never had a service. Ever. Car is currently on 14k miles. Reg plate is V1 VXR if anyone knows it? It is owned by the dealership and was a directors car they are now selling.

I can't believe they wouldn't service their own cars, would they? especially not from new?

Is that alarm bells I can hear?

Cheers

I would be very surprised if that was the case. I am assuming the dealership is Picador (As you are in Hampshire). As I understand things, they have a very good reputation and I am sure wouldn't let a car go without a service. I would ask them to clarify the situation, I don't know if the Monaro is like our Vectra VXR (That doesn't need a service until 20K miles).

Monaro very different for servicing than the Vectra. Assume the dealer may be Drive as Picador dont have a VXR on demo.

The dealership is Drive, and I have been told that it will be serviced if I bought it, as it should be 10k miles per service.

If you are looking at 6.0 ltr VXR I would very very careful as the correct service mileage is 10,000km (7,000ish miles) so Vauxhall have extended the interval all ready so 14,000miles is not good!!!!!

Most owners have changed the oil before the 10,000 as the computer calculates when the oil needs looking at......

One other problem, in theory the car is outside Vauxhall warrantee

I agree. Wouldn't be so bad if those 14k miles had been clocked up on long motorway trips, but lot's of short commutes/test drives would not be good. That engine is extremely durable however, but personally I always changed the oil every 6k or sometimes even less.

I would have a look at the colour of the oil, if it is black, that would be bad. They may have done a service on it, but didn't put it in the book.
Umm, would be interested to see if there is any oil left!! Sad if that is the case, cause it doesn't cost much in time and money to change the oil.

Not sure I would buy it if it should have been serviced at 10K miles. Why on earth would a dealer have not serviced it.

I can't understand that. Surely even if the servicing was missed for some reason, wouldn't they at least do a quick one BEFORE putting it up for sale??

Yeah, true... well I would have a look at the colour of the oil as quickly as possible, just to make sure before they changed it. To me, especially being a demonstrator, (it would have had a heavy foot life already), and the oil was that old, would concern me a little.

further to the above.. when these cars are sold in Oz, the service reminder comes up firstly at 1,500km (900miles) when a post run-in oil change & general check is supposed to be done & then at 10,000km (6500 miles). Like the guys say above, these service reminders have to be cleared by someone - bit iffy if they have not done either service! You'd like to think that they would of done the right thing though & just forgot to record it in the log?
Simple solution... buy mine, much more unique & it gets more TLC from me than my missus! (just ask her!)
Now advertised on Pistonheads..

How does £20001 sound for an offer.. its over £20000.
Well, yeah, must say, pretty simple for Suz... she just needs to have a few chromey bits, start walking around the house making the noise of a v8, and maybe wear an air freshner around her neck (this is for asthetic appeal, and definitely not saying she smells).

My car was bought with a filled in handbook showing a full service within the last couple of hundred miles, however reference to the oil showed it at the bottom of the dipstick and dirt black. This combined with rusted aircleaner housing screws and a filthy air filter showed that some service books dont mean squat. Thats from a so called specialist dealer too!
Not good. I suspect it was 10K+ since last "real" service. The price was ok though and promises were made (though subsequently broken) so the vehicle was purchased.

Moral of the story check the oil etc yourself dont go by the book or the dealers word (most of the present company excepted)

Back home you can actually get oil tests done, and it will tell you what is about to go in the engine. That was 10 years go, so suspect that things are alot better now adays. Cost something like $AU30 at the time. Very handy indeed.

Mike, I know this car and have seen it several times when I have called into Drive. The Director at Drive had a Red 5.7 until recently and now has a Black VXR. So not entirely sure where this car has come from as it is quite a recent addition to the small Monaro fleet they have there.
