Brakes

Just had the car MOT'd which was ok but I have notice the brakes getting a bit soft. The inside of all 4 discs are pitted so need replacing.
The search facility seems to be down so I can't check previous posts. Has anyone recently upgraded their disc on a 2.5. If so what to? I'm thinking of grooves rather than drilled.
Advice much appreciated as I need to get them sorted before booking for Brands

Give Plans a bell, i think they are doing grooved brake disc, i think Paul has them on his car ( but i could be wrong)

I do on the front (rears not in stock) and there are other owners who've got them front and rear. Eventually the drilled discs will crack and fail, the drill hole being a point of weakness ( I examined some of a lotus and the cracking was horrific) so you'll need to go non drilled. The grooved AP replacements are a bit more expensive but I am told (not actually driven mine yet) they improve the braking. They have a higher molybdymen content which makes them better stoppers so the theory goes.

John at Plans did all the donkey work sourcing these replacements so no qualms about giving them a plug. I think they've doen several cars now and mine was not the first.

FYI, the guys at Vegantune clean the vent holes with an electric drill/but to remove the gunk making them, they say, more efficient. Apparently the debris accumulates in the holes almost straight away.

You can clear it out yourself with a screwdriver and/or drill bit. If you want the disks to last then you should do it every 1000 miles or every track day.

Well what a day.
AP Racing tell me they have no discs that will fit a M12 !!!!!
Factory, helpfull as ever offer original drilled discs and are aware of grooved ones but don't know where they come from
Plans have grooved AP Racing discs for front and rear.
Whats all that about then ?
Looks like I'm going with the Plans discs. Next is pad selection. Is anyone using the DS3000's for road and track ?

DS2500 is best compromise for road/track.
DS3000 are best only if you are predominantly tracking and don't worry what its like to drive on the road.

As well as the production standard vented/drilled discs, they can offer solid discs and discs with larger drilled holes for the Noble, but nothing else. AP Racing does not supply discs to the company mentioned elsewhere in this thread.

In fact there's an explanation for these apparently divergent statements.

Have I got AP grooved discs on the front of my car? - Yes, you can all gawp at them on Sunday next. I may even put a picy up before then.

How much do they cost? - £204 + VAT each.

Did I pay that? - No, I paid £197 because the price went up in January.

Can you get them for the rears? - yes, but only for the early two part disc cars, I think this means early 2.5s. They won't fit all cars.

How much will these cost? - £272 + VAT each.

Have I got them fitted? - Not yet.

Are the fronts and rears a direct replacement? - Yes, no mods needed.

How does this fit with what Worty and Micknall have said? - Well here's the explanation; AP have over the years made discs in all shapes and sizes. Clearly in the past they've made grooved discs for some other application that just happen to fit the Noble. However they are not making them at the moment. These discs can be sourced, but not direct from AP because they are not holding any stock. Plans Motorsport are able to get them but from where I do not know. Considering this it looks like there may be a limited supply of the exisitng batch but I imagine if enough people wanted them they could be persuaded to re-produce some.

So Plans do have them, Worty is right, Micknall is correct and my middle name is Poirot.

Don't all rush to Plans. There is a que and I'm at the front
Doesn't look like I'll have them in time for Brands and as the brakes feel like they are made of cheese I won't be bringing it down

Hope to have them delivered this week. Probably going with the DS2500 pads to see how much better they are with the new discs compared to the lumps of cheese I have at the moment.

If they arrive by Thursday I'll be coming down the long way round to get them bedded in and I'll be out braking everyone
If they don't I may come down anyway but it will be in the Audi which means I'll be able to buy lots of new bits. If I'm in the Audi I'll bring my helmet just in case anyone needs some serious ballast
