I just had the Alpine IVA-DR10 Sat Nav kit put in with the ipod interface and it is without doubt the best ipod connection on the market. All playlists are on screen, search by album etc. The screen is as close to reflecting the ipod functionality itself as you can get - you drag your finger down the screen to find different playlists / songs etc. It's brilliant. Sat nav is awesome and the DVD player looks great. I'll put some pics up later of the install but having tried this and the Pioneer AVIC I'd heartily recommend the Alpine even though it does cost £1500 - it's well worth the extra £500 it if you're into your ipod...

My hideaway unit is in the same place - under the passenger seat. Had to do the same and cut the carpet away to make space - bit of a squeeze...

Hi,

I fitted a Pioneer AVIC X1R last month in the Tam. The hideaway unit is under the passenger seat. I also have the iPOD interface. Great piece of kit.

Does anyone have the new ipod 60gb video linked into their car stereo system coz ive just connected mine with the pioneer interface.
The problem is that after travelling for only a few yards it starts to pause and skip (prob due to the road surface). Is this normal coz I had an older one and used to go running with it in my pocket without it skipping.

Anyone any ideas?

Right, i've ruled out the ipod now, I drove along with head phones in and when it paused on the stereo I put the headphones on and the music was still playing on the ipod.

No idea what else it could be, I have installed the pioneer avic x1r with the pioneer ipod interface and its happened right from the start. I have shaken the interface hard to see if it was that but it carried on playing without pausing. Grrr!

Has anyone seen the FM transmitter??? You just plug it into the headphone socket of your mp3 player and select one of 5 frequencies on the gadget, tune into that frequency on your radio, and hey presto!!! you have a wireless connection thru your speakers, No interference at all. I tested the range and its a good 10-20 metres. I saw a collegues on Friday, am hopefully getting one 2moro!! saves any wires and tapes etc! Theyre not available in this country yet.

I think you mean the iTrip or latest equivalent? When I had mine I found it worked well in the home but in the car it was a lot more problematic as you drove around encountering various strength signals. Also the radio reception in our lovely fibreglass cars isn't the best so it didn't work that well. Still - it's only £20 so give it a go but I wouldn't expect the best performance. I think they're actually illegal in this country but they're quite easy to get hold of over the web.

Having tried all of the interfaces out there, the best one is by far the Alpine - next is Pioneer - and after that you've got various plug ins that'll do the job. Good luck!
